    Overlanding - Spare Parts

    Hey Guys,

Here's an interesting one that i'm sure will tee off an interesting discussion.

If you were overlanding in ... lets say a 93 200Tdi Defender on a 30 day trip what spares would you carry with you (apart from the usuals - fluids, hoses...)? What would you expect to break and what would you expect to break first?

Now lets say you're planning a 1 year overland expo - what would you bring?

If I was going for 30 days,I wouldn't expect to break anything, because I would have done all by pre trip inspections, and would have made my vehicle as bullet proof as possible before I went on any trip of any considerable length.........but maybe it is just me that is pedantic..

    I have a 92 disco 1 - where space is at a premium so:

    1. A good complete toolkit, including a wheel hub nut spanner.
    2. A very good factory workshop manual plus a haynes
    3. 1x engine oil 1x gear oil and 1x brake - clutch fluid
    4. High lift jack and plate
    5. silicone tape
    6. spare belts
    7. 1 spare set of wheel bearings and lock washers
    8. moly grease
    9. silicone gasket sealer
    10. tyre plugs
    11. phone, numbers and credit card for spares in the event something goes bang

preceding the trip, a very, very thorough service and inspection and a history of maintaining the vehicle to a high standard.

In over five years I have only had a power steering pump seize on a trip away- and I knew it was on the way out before I left....so really, its all about keeping it well maintained, which I do most myself, plus a good look over by a landrover mech about twice a year.
