NRMA welcomes speed camera removal in NSW

I hope that RACQ will put pressure for an audit like in NSW

They won't mate - haven't you noticed they do a lot of greenie / pedestrian / travel / insurance / other rubbish lately and not very much advocacy for motorists !

I can't see the Nanny State (Vic ) giving up about $180m in revenue. Ours are set to ping you for anything more than 3k over
I drive about 50,000k's per year and am currently having to be a very good boy for 12 months for exceeding 12 points over 3 years (got 13). All bar one of my fines were for exceeding by less than 5kmh, the other was 11kmh over and I thought it was an 80 zone when it was 70. The speed limit on that bit of road changes about 8 times over 3 km! add 2 more for the school times

Same here in WA, no way will they give up such easy money. The vast majority of fines are for the same sort of offence as yours Wardy, so small as to be virtually unavoidable unless you spend all your time peering at the speedo as you drive.
I reckon motorists are better off watching the antics of the other mugs on the road than having to worry about being a few kays over a limit set by some bureaucrap sitting in an office.
There again, our Traffic Enforcement Group (traffic cops) wouldn't know what to do if they weren't booking drivers for minor offences.
Pity their own driving isn't that flash.

After just having driven the length of NSW over the last 2 days, the one difference I noted is that, in NSW, you get warned. "Speed Camera Ahead" whereas down here we get bugger all warning (occasionally you'll see "Safety (sic) Camera in this area") .

Whilst I hate the sneaky cameras, Speed cameras have definitely slowed down the average drivers.

The problem I have is that our nanny-state directly links speed reduction to the lower road toll.
No credit to stricter drink driving policing, stricter fatigue rules, safer vehicles, better brakes, airbags, abs & other braking aids.
