    Car site scammers

I've just advertised the wife's Delica on CarsGuide and the scammers are quick off the ball.
Created a Yahoo account with an obvious clue that they have been sussed in the user name and the garbage keeps on coming in.

"Thanks for mailing back am very interested in buying the car, would
like to know if the it had any Mechanical Faults in the past and
advise on the bottom price that you will consider to sell the it as i
will like to seal this transaction this week, am buying it for my
vacation, because i'll be coming soon from our rig as am a petroleum
engineer on a rig offshore,i won't be able to come for the inspection
due to the nature of my work,i would have love to call in person but
our satellite server has been down which restrict our calls....

Regarding payment, i will be paying you through PayPal,pls get back to
me with your PayPal details so i can proceed with the payment and
contact the courier agent who will come to pick it up and deliver it
    in my place.
    Await your reply.
    Kendra"

I guess I'll have to wade through all this crap and hope to find a genuine buyer.
Told the guy above I would send him my Nigerian Bank Details and once the money had been received my brother-in-laws third cousin would deliver. It'll be interesting to see if he replies.....

Pretty common (?). That is the third time I have heard this type of story in the last couple of weeks. Problem with these guys is they cast a wide net and will eventually catch someone out. I like your Nigerian Bank line....hehehehe.

They give up after about the third delaying/wind up email normally.

I don't get bothered about these sorts of things anymore, just treat them with contempt by sending them hopeful messages or incomplete messages with something like 'email error......content incomplete' at the tail end.
Not as much fun as the callers on the phone for phone/internet/energy account changes, if you can get them up to about 20minutes or so I think it at least impacts their efficiency.

Happened to me about 6 weeks ago. My inlaws are selling their motor home and as they have no computer they got me to advertise.

The very next day I got a text message which said "Am happy to buy your Mercedes Sprinter what is the final price please. email me back at ............"
    I just ignored it.

Next day I get another. "saw your ad on trading post and am interested in the quick purchase, should you still have it for sale please mail me at ......."

This time I decided to reply with the intention of stringing him along for a bit and get him excited. Here is his reply to my email.

    Hi,

Thank you for the swift reply, I am interested in your advert so kindly write me with more information's about it. Below are my questions:

    1. What is the present condition?
    2. What is your last selling price?

I will await your urgent response and do also send me more pictures if available.

I will however be needing your city, state and postal code so that I can forward it to my shipping agent here in the United Kingdom who will be coming over there for the inspection and the pick up as soon as we finalize the sale.

    Regards,

    Darren

I was a bit busy at the time so I went no further with this.

Send me $10- and I'll send you some software to prevent this and as a bonus will stop door knockers and telemarketers.

Opportunity knocks.....there seems to be a big demand from oil rig workers for cars in Australia. Just had the fourth email with almost exactly the same wording.....

Now, what can I do with their email addresses. There must be somewhere I can sell them on.

Best thing, is to sign them up for every single newsletter on every site you can think of.

Problem is, their email addresses are disposable, so it only lasts for a couple of days.

Thats the spirit. I was getting hassled by a finance mob to consolidate my non existant investments. Eventually I got them to email me, from there worked out the format of their company emails. Get a list of employees from their website. Sign everyone up for free pron.

Two weeks later when I checked they had a new mail server and email address format. Never heard back oddly enough.
