    Oh Smeg !!!!

We have a Smeg oven (got it on sale when we did the kitchen) .

Anyway there was a power surge recently (it seems) which has managed to knock out the digital display for the clock/timer etc.

This has happened once previously, but it was fixed under warranty.

My missus has rung Smeg to see what they can do to fix it and they have quoted:

    Part: $380 (****)

    Call out: $99 (**** ! not a misprint) for first 15 minutes only THEN a further $33 per 15mins thereafter !

Thats gonna be over $500 just to get a ****ing glorified digital clock fixed.

Anyone have any useful suggestions please ?!
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Call your electricity supplier and tell them that their power surge stuffed your oven, I have had 2 computers at different times destroyed by power surges/brownouts etc. and each time the eleck mob's insurance replaced them, Regards Frank.

What a bunch of Smegheads, try online, you may be able to get one a lot cheaper, and if you can fix a Landy, you should be able to replace a clock.

first do what tank said, then you can get your locaql sparky to fix it.
Or get the model number, ring a appliance parts place, someone that sells parts for appliances, not someone that sells appliances. get a new board. Now if the oven plugs in, unplug it and change over the board, if its hard wired call a sparky, shouldn't take longer than an hour to fix.

First, was it Smeg or their local service agent ? I would really like to know the answer to this question.

Second, I work for a service agent and I have to tell you there are a LOT of overheads, guys think about it. You can't fart at work without having to please the paperwork nazis of one govt dept or another.

That is more than we charge but the boss is too bloody soft and we struggle with a tight budget. Knowing the business from my side I don't think the charges are too high. We all need to make profit.

Knowing what the problem is should mean one visit only.

If you buy it on line you may have buckleys of getting someone to fit it because they don't know if it is any good or not and will be called by you to repair it under wty as soon as it fails.

$380 sounds like Smeg, bloody overpriced gear that.

Similar electrolux part would be about $100
