The article states " organisations wanting to acquire vehicles should e-mail defence at disposals@defence.gov.au" A.U.L.R.O. is an organisation, is it not? Just a thought. Bob![]()
The News Ltd masthead broadsheet "The Australian" has today published an artical on the upcoming disposal of Army vehicles in the run up to Land 121 and future vehicle acquistions. For sale, one colour only | The Australian
Mark Dodd the journalist who apparently penned the story is still running with the myth that Army only knows one colour "green". If he even thought to view the image he included with his copy he would see that the vehicle has at least 2 colours (camouflage green and camouflage light tan) and one shade black. Presumably other vehicles on sale will have tropical and desert schemes.
Even if Mr Dodds thought his title comment was humour, it is a very lame attempt.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
Pedantry???
I am sure that if he had instead said "you can have any colour pattern, as long as it's Auscam" then you would still find a quibble Diana?
Sure - maybe it is a lame joke, but you can't expect a tiny snippet like that to be accurate to the level required to satisfy LR/Military anoraks...
The recce company here has a long range patrol vehicle thats done only 4400km's since a chassis up rebuild, that would be a nice thing to have. Pat

I would have accepted scheme or pattern or no comment at all.
My issue mainly is not the lame joke/comment it is that they are just being lazy and essentially plagiarising the original "You can have any colour you want as long as it's black" made by Henry Ford of the model "T".
Ben, The next time you attempt to insult me as you so regularly do I will be reporting it.

My sincere apologies Diana, I didn't view the word pedant as an insult. I shall refrain in future. My (occasional) comments now an in the past were intended as light hearted ribbing and I had always thought you understood them as such and had not taken offence.
But regularly???
The only thing worse than the Journos lame joke, is the fact someones gone to such effort to highlight it and it's inaccuracies!
It's a joke. A lame one, but a bit of humour. Jokes regularly not true.
Green is generally recognised as representing Army regardless of the fact that there are many different colours making up the Auscam, Desert Auscam, Multicam and other various colour schemes (e.g. the digicam type tarps on most Unimogs) that Army uses. As such most would get the joke about any colour so long as it's green.
I don't know the context behind yours and Ben's prior dealings, but I can't say that I would think his above post is offensive.
LRPVS and other specialist varients (SRV RFSV as examples) will be last on the chopping block...
odds are the GS, FFR and standard 6x6 (w/winch as appropriate) will be in the first lot out.
DO NOT BUY the first lot out of each location...
Trust me.
