    lifes ups and downs

    bloody kids..

you spend half a lifetime trying to bring them up right

    spend a fortune educating them

endure endless hours coaxing them to enjoy the finer things in life, art, photography and the like

    and what do they do

some of them decide they will run with your competitive streak...

that is my baby, Nicole, on the bottom left :P

got a hell of a block

Good luck to her! Nice to see them getting into a sport that keeps them active and fit both mentally (? LOL) and physically.

Very attractive girl too I might add

I can't decide if my best TV viewing memory as a kid was the wrestling on a Sunday or the ladies in Roller Derby

I remember roller derby on tv when I was much younger, very exciting, I'm sure they have a great time. If the girls want to try another sport, Australian Rugby is looking for players for their Womans comp. around the country, they can have a good time, and travel the World. Bob

Unfortunately, I have the opposite problem

14 yo boy, doesn't want to do anything except play computer games. Granted, he is a disadvantaged child and social skills don't come easy but trying to get him interested in any kind of activity is worse than pulling teeth!
Won't even ride his bike now as it's boring
Gunna perservere though as life is not worth wasting. We have a friend seriously into archery, gunna take him along to watch and see if it sparks any interest.

11 yo boy, refuses to resign for baseball. He showed promise too!
He does enjoy volleyball and plays on Fri night. He wants to join a 'futsal' comp which is a sport I detest but at least he wants to!

I always aimed high which in hindsight was a big mistake
I thought....two kids, one a lawyer, one a wallaby, it wasn't much to ask Oh well, I'll be happy if they both hold down a paying job and eventually leave home sighhh

    Cheers
    Ralph

My kids are still very young 7 and 6 and I always think on how to give them the best of my life experience. I don't want them to be super heroes but I want them to enjoy life. I pray that I could give them the necessary education to convince them to stay away from the modern world plagues that are drugs, gambling ...

below is a poem written by the famous Lebanese poet Gebran Khalil Gebran, that should make you meditate on the subject.

    On Children
    Kahlil Gibran

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
    Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.
