The first batch through the Sydney auctions in October are TD5s, all wagons I think.
All the Aussie ones do, it was part of the specification IIRC
Youve never driven one..... have you....
As for why have the Isuzu and not something more refined?
think of it like Briggs & Stratton VS Honda mower engines:
Hondas:
Start easily
Are economical
Lower NVH
More technologically advanced
BUT.... Once they start playing up, bin the damn thing.....
Briggs & Strattons:
Invariably take several pulls to start
Bit thirsty on fuel
NVH is comparable to a Isuzu for the pre-restriction models
Have been developed about as much as a hammer over the years....
The older they get, the more tempremental they get
BUT..... you can garuntee with the right persuasion, they always do the job....
I know of 8 that were bought when there was a need due to Afghanistan taking so many out of Oz.
I was led to believe that wasn't the only "1 off" purchase.
The source was an Army W.O. - who has since left the Army to work for a truck company, he said the Deefers weren't all too popular against the Isuzu's, but that could have been from a servicing point.
There's definitely some Defenders, I've seen a few TD5 110's, most of these were white ones used for normal transport duties. However the majority of their normal transport vehicles are Cruiser's.
VIC Country Chocs 8/7 RVR did have some TD5 110 hard tops. 2006-7. I have photos but I'm not posting.![]()
