    Hi all

    Haven't been on for a while, but I thought I'd see if there had been any reference to this story on here. I couldn't immediately see any so I thought I'd post it. Quite exciting really

    Rovers and Mogs...

    FOR sale: 12,000 Army vehicles, full logbooks, well maintained, some slightly war-soiled but otherwise in good order.

    The Government will conduct the biggest sale of surplus military vehicles since the end of World War II when it offers more than 3000 Land Rovers, 2500 trailers and thousands of other army trucks including Unimogs, tankers and cranes.

    Many of the 118 vehicle types have been to East Timor, Afghanistan and Iraq. Some will be preserved in museums, but most will be sold.

    Government bean-counters are not sure how to handle such a massive sale so the Government has asked industry for ideas to provide maximum returns for taxpayers.

    They are worth tens of millions of dollars, but will not be sold individually or in small lots.

    The ideal outcome would be for a large company to buy them in bulk, refurbish them and sell them.

    They will be demilitarised, and hostile countries will be banned from buying them.

    I believe best idea is to put on net via a site similar to ebay or grays and let people bid on vehicles.

    I would grab one if they came up for sale.

    Put them through the auction houses (all auction houses not just one) and the online sites.
    If you want to know what happens with job lots, look at the Centurion tanks. I'm sure that fellow didn't pay $60k to $100k each.

    I said I grab one, didn't say i drive it.

    Surely they don't all run Isuzuuu donks!

    Even if they did, what the heck, I still would get one, the wind noise will drown the engine noise and the flogging from here would be worth the laugh.

    I will have to grow a beard though.

    As far as I know all the army Landys are Isuzu, but I'm not 100% sure. Someone else might be able to tell us if the army ever commissioned any Defenders, as opposed to earlier 110's ????

    It will certainly be interesting to see what sort of dollars they attract if they do end up spreading them around a bit and giving the general public an opportunity to buy.

    If they end up auctioning them in lots of, say 10 at a time, maybe keen forum members could put in a group bid for a lot.
