Thanks Fatcat, always wanted one of these toys but could never quite justify the price and the Aldi $199 price tag was to good a price to pass on.

The wife got me one yesterday after I dropped a big hint after reading your post the previous night and it is quite amazing how well it works.

    cheers,
    Terry

I bought one last Thursday - it seems to work quite well for the price.

I have absolutely no 'real' use for it, it's just one of those toys that I've always wanted.

The missus wasn't toally happy on me spending $200 on something that I'll get little (or no) use out of but then I pointed to her shoe collection which halted any further discussion on the matter

    aldi owl

Hi all,I bought one the other day.I have tried it in the dark, and,if you work out how to focus it,it is pretty good.I think that if you get a more powerful IR illuminator it will be equal to some of the more expensive ones.Yep,another toy I just could not resist.Slowly but surely Aldi is filling up my shed.I also bought a 600W inverter.(Might come in handy one day.)Sad,isn't it?

    Brave man indeed !

I use a powerful LED torch (focussed tightly) sitting on top of my 7x50 binoculars... Amazing range and brightness !!!!
