    NSW vehicle registration

Hey all were moving to NSW soon (newcastle area) and i'll be driving a 110 i'm currently building up for the trip across.

I've removed the rear seats - and dont plan on putting them back
theres a few minor leaks which i will sort out, rear window is perspex and a bit of corrosion in the rear doors - how hard is it going to be to get registered in N.S.W. - oh and i dont think the engine number matches up with the current rego papers
What exactly do they check/look for - is it the same as a U.K. M.O.T.?

They will look for the engine number and the VIN stamped into the chassis.
They will also check the operation of all lights, wipers and washers including any additional lights.
They should look for the operation of all the seatbelts, anchorages and releases.
The seats should have no splits cracks or tears.
No cracks or bulls-eyes in the windscreen and other glass.
Operation of all the door locks inside and out.
They should also look for rust in the chassis and any invasive rust in doors/firewall (bulkhead)
    brake test
    check for oil leaks
    steering check.
They should check the tyres for wear, cuts and bald patches.
If you are talking about having removed the sideways facing seats in the very back. That's good as more than 8 seats is a bus which is expensive and need 6 monthly inspections. If it has a australian compliance plate you may need the reduction in seat numbers changed by an engineers ticket.

If the engine is not the one on the current paperwork, then you will need a receipt for the engine (from someone)

Whether they do all of the above is anyone's guess.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

No cracks or bulls-eyes in the windscreen and other glass. For real, over here its as long as they are not in the drivers direct view

    Taff,
A lot harder than in WA.They will go through everything. Are you sure you want to move?
Any idea on when you are going yet?
I will need to get your address.
I should be heading down on the 29th maybe in Perth that night or on the 30th. Will make your place a priority.
Let me know if you intend on leaving earlier and I will have to try and find someone in the North to hold the trans box.
    Cheers

I was going to say a few things but others have - the best I can add is when you get to where you are going, I suppose you can visit here

    All Four x 4 Spares - Home

and they should be able to advise before you go thru the rigmarole of inspection.

The vehicle will have WA rego,so in NSW it will have to have a Blue Slip inspection and not just a normal registration inspection. As mentioned they will check all vehicle numbers,so you must be able to produce a receipt for the engine, all fitted accessories must be operational, they will do a test very much like an MOT except that they won't do the brake test on a brake dyno.Make sure you have no oil leaks when you present the vehicle for inspection,a good clean and degrease before you go is always a good idea.If you have removed the rear passenger seats, technically this would be a reason for a failure as the vehicle is not compliant, but a phone call or a chat to the inspector prior to booking an inspection should allow you to find out if he will bother with this or not.I have seen vehicles passed and vehicles failed for no rear seat.As far as rust goes,as long as you have no rust in any structural member, not including surface rust. Then it will be OK.Corrosion in door skins etc does Not constitute a failure,as long as there are no holes in the panel, and the tester in NOT allowed to poke anything through and corrosion to try and make a hole,if he does so,that is malicious damage.
Blue slip registration stations are different to normal safety inspection (pink slip) stations.A list of blue slip stations near to your intended location, will be available from your local RTA office.

Correction. That should be nine seats, which means you do not have a problem if there is no centre seat in the front - and I have yet to see one of these in a County, possibly for this reason.

(I have been through this with mine - I was questioned by RTA on the subject as to whether it had ever had a centre front seat. Also note that mine has no number of seats on the compliance plate - just "omnibus")

Yes 8 seats is OK, but 9 is a bus that requires 6 monthly inspections and why I said more than 8 seats.

Hilton Pollard has a number of county rear seats that were either never fitted or removed by JRA, exactly because of the issues of registration with 9 seats.

Go to Brooks Motors or Thompsons, both at Mayfield, they are reasonable with their expectations and wont knock stuff back just to get work out of you, but they will sell you globes for lights before signing everything off so that you dont need to go back again.
