These Coles cranes were still in service in the late 1970's we had 2 of them at Ten Terminal Regt, Middle head Sydney, My earliest memory's of them was as an 18 yrs old at Bandiana, one was left out side the transport compound one night when I was duty driver, the Duty office asked me if I could put it in side the compound, and as a young pup eager to drive the biggest i jumped at the opportunity, after near taking the gate post out with the jib I could not stop the engine so after several minutes top gear was engaged and the engine was stalled.my next experence with them was during Exercise Kangeroo 3, four driver/ operators were sent to Brisbane to drive one to Rockhampton, from memory it was it took about 56 hours travelling time top speed was about 35 MPH or 60Ks Per hour and the abuse from the other road user was some thing else It was a trip I will never forget.

Certainly a blitz. My dad used to have several of them. Canadian or a British one? Canadian ones came with a side valve v8 or big six.

    G'day Hall

They were of Canadian design to a British Dept Of Defence order for a 4x4 military vehicle in 1939, hense the CMP, "Canadian Military Pattern" common Australian name is "Blitz" that stemmed from the British "Blitz-Buggy" when the first of them arrived in UK, but they were Cab 11 & 12 designs with the narrow cab and the headlamps on the guards (not unlike saucepans) which is known in Australia as the "Monkey Face" models

The crane is by R.H. Keal & Co.Ltd

    cheers
