    Number Plates

Heres a quick question the plates that i have on my D2 represent the make engine size etc and my father inlaw is now going to be taking the car as i have a new toy.
And he does not want to pay the $90 a year.
if anyone is interested in them PM me and will see what can be done.

So in your State do personalised plates have an annual fee?
Here in QLD its a one off purchase price.

    Hi LR25TD,

Once the vehicle is transferred into your fathers name the annual fee is no longer charged.

It is only charged to the owner who ordered the personalised plates.

    Cheers

Unfortunately in NSW this is not correct
Here is a "quote" from the "My Plates" web site:-
"I bought a car from a motor dealer and it already had plates that incur annual fees. Is the motor dealer responsible for paying the annual fees?
No. The holder of the number plates/registered operator of the vehicle is responsible for paying the annual fee at the time of registration renewal.
If you don't want to keep the annual fee plates, you can return them to an RTA Motor Registry in exchange for a standard content plate with no annual fees, and pay the applicable order fee for the new plates."

Note that it states that the holder of the number plates or registered owner is responsible for paying any fees!!!!

    Hi Wayne,

    This must have changed then.....

I purchased a BA Mk 2 GT from a fellow who ordered and fitted - NSW plates - "BO 55 IE" (Blue with White letters). The plates were a take on the Boss 290 engine.

At the time the car was 10 weeks old. When I got the renewal notice 9 months later, the annual fee for the plates was not included in the total cost of registration.

I had it 2 years and did not pay the once..!

But, I would not be surprised if they have closed this loop hole

I have no idea when things changed in NSW,I came across that info on the MY PLATES web site a few weeks ago in the FAQ section, whilst checking out plates that were going to cost more than my Defender to own .
