    Morons

Morons is probably not accurate. The swear filter would not let me use the terminology I would have liked.

This morning I saw some council staff(I was going to say workers but council and workers can't go in the same sentence) across the road removeing the bus stop shelter. I live in a rural area and this is a school bus stop.

I went over to see what they were doing, thought they must have been replacing it, to find out last night someone with a 4x4 had lashed a chain around it at the top to try and pull it over.(Wasn't me, my TDI auto had no chance) As it was bolted to a concrete slab they bent it beyond repair.

Due to lack of council funds who knows when the kids will get a new one?

Talking to the council bloke I find out that they went on a rampage. Up the road is a railway crossing. The post with the railway sign and the stop sign is bent down to the ground. Another main road one mile from here has had about 10 odd stop/give way signs ripped out.

These bastards if caught should do time, but as usual will get a slap over the wrist with a feather duster and told that they are naughty boys. What hope have we got unless the government starts getting serious with punishment. Our new premier Ted said he would but I am not holding my breath.

I blame the parents for a lot of this. I don't want to sound like I am big noting my self but my 18 and 20 year old boys would never do anything like this because they were bought up with discipline and taught to respect other people and property. I am not naive to think my kids are angels, I am sure they get up to a bit of mischief, but it would be harmless mischief.

I fear for the life my grandchildren are going to endure.

Sorry if I rambled on a bit. This post was not meant to go on as such but as I was typing my blood was boiling and the fingers went out of control.
    I need another beer.

it should get replaced quicker as its vandal damge.

    Im a council employee.
the best way to get this service returned for a volenteer group to replace it with the council suppling the equipment and doing the paper work.

big proportion of cost is paper trail.3 to 1 ratio at least.

In this day and age of bureaucracy and bull **** with all the overboard OHS crap, I really can't see the council allowing volunteers to do a roadside job.

Know how you feel over the modern discipline/punishment, up here in lovely sunny north QLD a heap of minors went on a car stealing spree. 6 cars from one complex of flats. Crashed and trashed most of them. Two ended up 25km south of Cairns in cane fields, trashed. I was not targeted this time, but one of my cars was stolen when on loan to a friend. Found the other side of the city with the rear seats removed???

Problem is they are minors and know they wont do time for it, juvey is nicer than at home so they commit crimes just to get there. Im not racist but I wont mention what color they are......I dont believe that this is why the commit crime but it does affect how they are treated by the authorities. Whilst the authorities have a bad relationship with them, they treat them with kid gloves in fear of what the headlines will read...

I am raising the next generation, with only little tikes at the moment
My kids enjoy a high level of freedom that is quickly removed if they do not behave in a respectful and courteous manner concerning others and their property. But I dread to think what they will witness as they grow up.

The vast majority of Council workers are hard working and take immense personal pride in their work making our communities function smoothly. I think your comment is unnecessary and a bit unfair to those of us in this industry.

Yes they are morons and they will just get a slap on the wrist. But a big presumption that it is 18-20yolds. Could have been anyone. And also to just blame the parents, well that is not entirely fair, yes the parents need to take some responsability, but then so do our education system, justice system and do gooders. An I am sorry, but as good as you bring your kids up they can go off the rails, some never to return and others to learn the error of their ways. To be honest and fair you can say your kids are angels, but unless you are with them 24/7 you only have faith they would not commit an offence and that is great, because I am the same with my kids, but the first you may ever be aware of them not acting as you would like may be a visit from the police, may even be as simple as DUI, but is as bad if not worse than vandalism, so maybe wear the rose coloured glasses I do, but also be aware things are not always as they seem.
I personally know friends from a very strict honest family that child one has been on assault, B&E. Child 2 Theft, Drugs. Child 3 Just about anything you can think of and is currently inside for murder.
Our society just has few repercussions for ones actions these days and that needs to be re-dressed.

I've seen a lot of families where 2-3 kids are all brought up the same and all turn out different. It's puzzling really and a bit of a lucky dip in my opinion, but then I believe in smacking them early and with a lot of noise. You never have to smack them again if you do it right.
My father always said you give your kids whatever they are asking for...if they ask for a cuddle you give a cuddle, if they ask for a hiding, you give them a hiding. They rarely ask with words...
I also believe most boys want to be hit. Boys play rough, like contact sport and war games. I also believe that they want to see their fathers being strong and tough to earn their respect. Not giving your boys a good whack on the arse is as much a case of denying them essential physical contact as not giving them a cuddle.
I believe I am now late for my new age sensitivity class....

I do have balls to reply. I was away from my computer. My comment about council workers was a tongue in cheek comment. I should have put in an emotion to go with it. My bad., If I offended any council workers I apologize.

As for what I do. Myself and SWMBO run a small and I mean small 41 site caravan park. This job is 24/7, being small don't employ staff and believe me it is not the easy cushy job that it appears to be when you are staying in one. One of many things for example, all dressed up for a night out with friends and our after hours door bell rings, a big tree branch has fallen and is dangerous. For safety has to be attended to immediately. A septic tank is starting to overflow because of a blockage. I could go on. Holidays are hard to take as we have to pay a sitter and they don't come cheap. Having said that I am not whinging about my job just pointing out it is not all roses.

    Dave.
