    Home made carbon fibre stuff

    Hay

Anybody around here make their own stuff from carbon fibre?

I have searched the net a number of times but cant seem to find any step by step instructions and also no 'relativly' local place to get the fabric and liquids

    Any help would be appreciated

    thanks

It depends on what you are after. If you just want to make up some cosmetic parts, the you can buy the matting by the square meter online (about $70 a metre), and just use a 2 part fibreglass epoxy to hold it all together. Check out Carbon fiber Australia they have a good range of DIY stuff.

If on the other hand you want to make up something that needs to be stuctural, then that is a whole difffernt ball game - very specialised epoxys, and the you would need an autoclave, vacuum pumps, etc....
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

    Hey mate,

Have you tried checking some of the wooden kayak forums? Sometimes they have some good instructions. I have some instructions for a kayak I intend building, once I finish my canoes, which has some carbon fibre parts -Wooden kayak designs by One Ocean Kayaks, not sure what's on their website though. Damiano at Gnarlydog News makes up his own carbon fibre stuff for his kayaks and if it's not on his blog I am sure he wouldn't mind sharing his expertise.

For the materials you could check out http://http://boatcraft.com.au/Shop/...ex&cPath=40_54.
I get most of my stuff from there and have always had good service from them.

Sorry for all the kayak links but that is my other obsession .

What are you wanting to make up?

    resins and fibre

    Hay,

there is a good supplier in the Illawarra that I will dig out the contact details. They provide tech support as well to a limited degree.

Are you vac moulding or just manual lay up. ?

Be careful when working with carbon fibre as it is carcinogenic.

    Thanks for the guides

I am looking to learn something new and I look around and see stuff that I would like to make from CF or similar, not because then it is CF but because I want to make something.

We do repairs to various work equipment whilst not being CF it looks to be similar. I have access to vaccuum pumps and the like.

to begin with I am thinking of makeing some boxes

    thanks
