    Mini Digger Hire

    Hi all,
I have just built a small (< 1m) retaining wall and now have to move a rather large pile of soil behind it.

I have hired mini diggers in the past and am happy to do so again, as I reckon I could move the pile in less than a day, maybe even a solid 4 hrs. Working on a 6x4 trailer holding 1/2 m3, there's around 3-4m3. Current mini digger hire prices range from $180.00 - $270.00 day - depending on delivery, attachments etc.

A mate told me to 'network' and ask around as some folk own their own and in a 'private hire arrangement' may be prepared to 'do' the work or 'loan' the digger for a lessor competitive fee.

Trouble is, my network is small....then I thought of AULRO. So if there is anyone who knows someone accessable to Ferny Hills, Bne, I'd be happy to make contact.

Same mate also suggested a 'shovel' party, but I don't think that would work out cheaper after beer, snags and lifts home was tallied up!

    Cheers
    Ralph

I have a Mini Digger, of which I use as a bit of extra income.

If you can hire one for around $200.00 a day dry hire, go for it. As an operator, if you called me up, Id charge you $80.00 an hour + GST, minimum 3 hours. Thats $264.00 straight up for 3 hours mini digger work.
Grab one for the day at $200.00, operate your self (they are fairly easy) and I bet you'll find other things you can do with it, whilst you have it.

Now, as an AULRO member, I would probably do it for $60.00 an hour and only charge actual hours and a bit of travel. Still probably cheaper to hire one for the day and do a few extra jobs.

I am very concerned that there is all this talk and even talk of cost relating to the work you have planned for my children (tom, will and sarah..also known as the mini diggers!)

(I'd consider a trade for a gunbuggy though!! just joking Nay! (mrs Digger) )

    Thanks,
The approx $200 are self operate, with self pick up and deliver. A hire place here often has 'reno specials', a small dingo with bucket $220 for 8 hours (1 day), extra of course for 4in1 or deliver etc. It's not that I am trying to reduce cost (of course I am), if I could mutually help out a fellow landy owner, I'd be happy to do so.
BTW, Can you come around this saturday?
    Cheers

you can borrow my tandem if you like it takes 1500kg in a hit (bout 1.5m3 of plain dirt more if its topsoil or loam) and is wide enough to take a small bobcat/excavator or dingo onboard

if its clean fill you're removing I can probably also be convinced to find a place to dispose of it for you....

I hired a dingo from Kennards a few years ago. Heaps of fun, ended up doing, or attempting to do, heaps with it. Just don't overestimate it's load capacity in the bucket. Had it tip forward on me a few times. Good fun though.

WOW, they know how to charge over there! The cost of a 24hr hire for a 1.8 ton Komatsu excavator on a trailer is $100 + GST ($115) at my local hire out fit over here.
