I'd hope you change coolant more often than 3 years.
And don't over mix... It reduces cooling ability.

Two questions.
1. Does new coolant expire sitting in the bottle it came in?
2. I am servicing my motor bike and I sent SWMBO to the bike shop to get coolant. They sold her two litres. The instructions on the coolant bottle and the manual both say to mix it 50/50. The cooling system holds three litres.
So do I mix it stronger and use 2 coolant one water or do I go 50/50 which means I only have to purchase one litre next time? The coolant is three year long life. Will it be ok sitting in the shed for three years?
Dave.

I would think a 12k oil change (especially in a bike)is stretching the friendship also,,
but thats off topic,, sorry.
The fluid probably has a shelf life that long,,

1. yes, but its more dependant on the storage conditions than anything else... clear light coloured bottles will see the coolant degrade in about 10 years or so, but the bottle will have failed long before the coolant in those conditions. so dont worry about this one.
2. depends... the servicing manuall will describe the range thats acceptable to the cooling system, mix it to the highest of that range so that if you have to add a little water later on you can. Generically the range is 30-50% concentration. This also varys with the concentration of the premix.
3. the green coolant (generic ethyl-glycol stuff) should be changed out every 12 months and the system flushed to prevent the build up of scale every 24 months you will should also do a chemical clean and rod the radiators every 4-5 years depending on how much gunk the engines producing.
If you use HOAT you can essentially double those time frames
if you use OAT it becomes a 3/6/12 yearly deal.
