Look I agree competition is a good thing, but at what price. It is no good having competition if business A can not make a profit and stay in business. Just look at the local Westfields, 10 identical clothes shops side by side, how they stay in business I dont know.
I think there should be some regulation so business can at least be profitable and remain in business without having a monopoly and overcharging.
What is happening in Sydney, Gosford, Newcastle and the rest of NSW.Quote:

Healthy competition is good, but not for me. :Thump:
I can't compete with the low mark ups and the high Aussie dollar bringing in goods, way below the cost of production here in Australia.
A chap came to my front door the other morning, asking if I still repaired Electric fence units. :o
So I asked a few questions to find out, what it did and didn't do, then I had to tell him that the unit was beyond economical repair, as it needed a new output transformer, therefore making it cheaper to buy that size unit new, than it is to repair his old one with the cost of parts the way they are.
Now all the stuff that I trained on is on the tip, I'm even toying with the idea of going fishing and leaning some lifestyle skills instead. :thumbsup:

I see this as clearing out the dead wood, getting rid of the businesses that were never that great- for what ever reason. I knew my business was being comoditised and soon it would have no value... So I got out. 6 years working day and night gone, but not forgotten.
The good news is that down turns are the best times to start a business, get it right now and you will have something that will pay for your grandchildren to go to uni.
Not keen on being on my own but I prefer being a professional layabout.
I come and go as I please. I shop on line when I can, as postage is much cheaper than petrol. I do the bulk of my shopping once a month.
I play golf whenever I like. I can go off in the Disco at any time to wherever without planning far ahead. I can stay up late. I can get up late. I dont have to be nice to anyone. I tell dickheads that they are dickheads out loud.
Best of all, when the sun sets I will be re united with my little Bird.

Yeah, it's tough out there. People are scared and saving more and using less credit. If Europe and the USA get their act together and the media runs out of scare stories it might ease up a bit.
Smaller operators have to specialise or get swamped by the biguns. Servicing rather than retail sales must have some potential, but only if it can be fixed for a profit. It's not easy.
