I want to take this offroad! 730HP!! and 8 wheel drive!!

I thought you guys may find this funny, this is my works latest creation the Scania R730 8x8 - It is powered by a 730HP 3,500nm 16.4 lt V8 through a 14 speed automated manual box to 4 x Hub reduction diff's.
I have checked and we can have it in AUS but even though it has 4 doors its not real practical for the family weekend away.

It's a shame with 4 axles that they didn't build it cab over instead of cab forward. The approach angle is poor and it does look a little undershod.Dual wheels on the rear bogie is unusual for a true offroader also.It should be wearing 16.00x20' singles all round. Is there a load sharing suspension between the two front axles?

Perhaps its market is for snow and ice work so they don't care, but you're right it'd be pretty useless off road.

AFAIK these were originally designed for a Dutch army contract.

Therefore approach angle wasn't a consideration - those who have been to the netherlands will know why

The race is not always to the swiftest. As us Landrover owners know only too well.

I'm afraid the Disco has taken a back seat for off roading since going to the dark side. Cruises at 95-100 Km/hr @ 15.5 l/100 Km or on the dirt 80-90 Km/hr @ 14.5 l/100 Km. Best part is the only two electronics are the speedo and the 'wireless', (note I didn't say radio). My sort of 4WD.
Capable as hell and no worries about packing. Double bed in the middle. Beautiful...................
What do they say at the beginning of Star Trek, something about going where no man has gone etc. Not quite but certainly goes easily where my Landys struggle.
Just like British Airways, a minimum of fuss (and no bloody inhibitor switch).
But best of all MADE IN AUSTRALIA.

We can order it with 24'' (415 wide) bar tred style wheels all round, performance from the 730HP V8 is amusing to say the least, I have beaten cars with the prime mover version.

And yeah it can be load sharing but only if it is ordered on airbag suspension just like a Range Rover but more reliable hahahaha!

So are you suggesting there are no hills, humps or ditches in the Netherlands Ben? A common feature on many early pre and postwar DAF military all wheel drives was the fitting of stub axle mounted spare wheels amidships to prevent bellying in rough terrain. Some (Ford/DAF Trado) cars and trucks even had bumper wheels to prevent the nose of the vehicle digging into the ground when climbing steep banks etc.

This truck is actually for offroad Heavy Haulage and is rated at 120tonne, its not a true offroader as such but aimed more for hauling 100 + tonnes is slippery conditions.
