You'll find that the only people who knock Freelanders are the ones who have never driven them.

I love my Freelander, it's brilliant!

On top of the usual service history, the main things to look out for are seized viscious units, worn IRD units and knackered rear diff bushes.

TD4 Auto is the best and avoid the 1.8 petrol.

You should be able to get a reasonable 300TDI Disco 1 for that or not a lot more, and it has a ladder chassis 4x disc brakes and LOW RANGE so that she will be able to follow you off road, and it is a 4 cylinder,a little bigger than a Freebee,so she won't get shoved off the road

And it would be home servicable no computers

Wise words my friend.!! It is a shame the bad reputation of the early 1.8 litre petrol motor has stained the whole range of Freelander 1's and even some people who are contemplating buying a Freelander 2 worry about the "reputation".Our Freebie 1 does everything we ask of it and we are very happy with it.

The Freelander 1 has the same wheelbase as the early Disco's only the body is less bulky!! By the way, nobody shoves me off the road!!I drive heavy vehicles for a living and I just tootle along in my Freebie and if anybody gets smart they can get ****ed!!
