Brush bar/ brush cable.
( some times they were a steel wire cable)
Used for guiding low branches and crap up and over the car so they don't slap on the windscreen.
Once upon a time, Land Rovers along with other 4WDs often had bars that went from the bull bar to the roof rack, like in the photo.
1. What are they called?
2. What do they do?
3. Are they still legal?
4. Why don't people still have them?
5. Anyone got better pics of them?

And currently illegal, I believe.
1) No idea
2) They will allow you to keep moving in heavy scrub as you will be able to see where you are going.
3) Couldnt imagine it.
4) The Harold Scruby's of the world will be foaming at the mouth as you decapitate his pedestrians.
5) Have a look at Len Beadell's old Land Rovers they had them
I think a steel cable type that you could attach when you are out bush might be appropriate
A kind forum member gave me some wire cable to make some, apparently they suit my driving style...
But they are illegal and need to be removed between every off road adventure. Trouble is, i'd be likely to forget them the one time I actually need them. Actually I already needed them when a branch cracked my windscreen, so hopefully never need them again.
I have also heard them called limb risers or in the link below branch lifters:
