Once read some stuff on Shoo Roo and the Doppler effect. The conclusion was that, even if they did work, they would be not be effective once you went over 80 km/h. I had a work car with them fitted and didn't notice any difference to roo behaviour, even when I stopped near a mob pointed it at them and turned it on, but I once stopped near a paddock with some horses. I turned the Shoo Roo on and the effect was immediate. It attracted the horses to the car. Maybe it should have been called 'Come Horsie'.

Car manufacturers are always looking for improved performance and fuel economy. They spend millions in R&D trying to make theirs better than the competitors. If something as cheap and easy to fit as the Hiclone worked, you could bet your bottom dollar that they would be factory fitted.

Looks like the choice is between hitting roos or cattle and horses.

I fitted one to my Td5 and was so amazed at the results (down from 10.5 l/100km to 2.3 l/100km and 0-100kmh time down from 12 sec to 8 sec) that I decided to try fitting one to the exhaust as well.

Now I actually make fuel. I have to syphon diesel from the tank every week or else it goes everywhere. When I have a 200l drum full I sell it on the side. It's a bit of a problem on long trips as I have to carry a few empty jerries to put the fuel in, though usually I can find someone to sell it to.

My 0-100kmh time is now 4.3 sec which surprises your average Porsche driver.

    Very droll Frenchie.

WIth the Shu Ru, I wondered how anyone could ever prove it had acttually made a difference. I mean you'd have to have absolutely identical conditions with the same roos in the same positions and making the same movements as the same car went past at the same speed with and without it before you could argue any comparison. Not gonna happen in the natural world.

Dr Karl on rust was interesting reading too. This bit seemed the besta dvice:

Your best bet is to regularly clean out all the drain holes so that the water can't collect, scrape off any mud that has collected so that metal doesn't rust away underneath the mud, and remove the leaves and dirt. And of course, once you've washed the car, you should always take it for a drive so that any trapped water can slosh out.

Lets just put it this way, SWMBO insisted on fitting one to her Patrol when it was new as her father had one on his then Citroen and reckend they really worked.

The Patrol proceeded to have more hits than Elvis at speeds as low as 30km/h with the bloody Shu Roo tweet, tweet, tweeting away.

You'd be correct in guessing it's no longer fitted

They're worse than a Hiclone as they are much more expensive.
We had the argument in Telstra years ago when I did my country service, and I found the Shoo Roo has its followers and its sceptics and at the end of the day no one can give hard evidence as to its true effectivness, the one problem that was brought up years ago was that it would alert the roo, the roo would then scamper in panic. one time out of ten that roo then came to an obsticle it would then turn back and go the other way generally into the path of the car as it caught up to it. Now if there was no Shoo roo most of those roos would not have moved at all, so if it does truely work it makes the situation more dangerous as you increase the chances of the roos moving.

A vehicle I purchased about 13 years ago had Shoo Roo's fitted. A few years later I hit one, so as far as I am concerned they sit with the Hiclone.
