Thread: V8 Supercars - whats happening to Ford?

Ok guys, here goes......so you all seem to love the "old" style motor racing with many different classes.....well, guess what? You can go and see it just about every other weekend at one of your motor racing circuits. I'n Qld you have Queensland Raceway, Morgan Park and Lakeside. I think.....every other weekend one of these tracks hosts the Queensland Racing Drivers Championships, comprising Modified sedans, Sedans, Gemini/Hyundai/suzuki, Formula Ford, Formula Vee and another open wheel like Formula 3 or something. You probably know someone who races in one of these classes. Go and watch....its cheap entry, casual paced, lots of variety and you can wander through the pits without a pass or security questioning you or controlling where you watch the racing from. No V8 supercars, no $300,000 Porsche GT3's, no Brute Utes, no Aussie Racers(what a bloody farce), just honest to goodness motoracing at ground level. There is no advertising for it.....you have to find it for yourself. I'm sure NSW and Vic have it and I know SA has it.

Nah, made it round in my fender towing a caravan a few years ago, however had to stop for a cupatea at the top to recover. Went quite well down the mountain, had the wind behind me.

As Ford withdrew financial support 888 removed all badging or identity with the blue oval so, as you say, Holden stepped in and offered $ so they jumped ship.

Totally correct. Ford were not happy with the cars being Red as this is Holdens colours.

As for this years race, I am a fan of the V8's but have lost a lot of interest this year due to the lack of Fords. You can almost be sure that a Holden will win before the race even starts due to the sheer weight of numbers.

It appears that the top drivers determine what team will win. The best drivers get drawn to where the money is, Lowndes has been competetive in both Holden and Ford and now Holden again. Ford has been a bit on and off again as far as sponsorship of racing in Australia.

As for it must be Ford Vs Holden? I'd say that there are enough ricers out there to support the jap product.

This silhouette type of racing does get away from brand products and although entertaining gets away from the premise that it is based on the support of the local product, either that or people just don't care (or are easily fooled). Homologation was a good way to bring things back to what was available for the fans, race on Sunday and drive it to work on Monday (safety included).
