The D2 is staying as a play toy... Its in Adelaide getting some tweaks at the moment...

I'm doing it tough at the moment - I have a Rimini Red D3 sitting in the driveway at the second!...

Couldn't have found a better concidence if I was looking for one. My job has just changed and I will also have to do something about a new vehicle - probably through leasing through our company's lease provider.

The three vehicles that I have also been considering are exactly the same three - D4 (though I was thinking of SE 3.0 TDV6 - interested to hear why you opted for the 2.7), new Defender, and Amorok.

We're in Albany camping at the moment, and I met a bloke with a dark green Amorok today and had a good look at it - very impressed with it. It is the first time that I have seen one in the flesh. They look much better in the flesh than in the magazines / on websites. The owner did not have a bad word to say about his, though I can understand him being pleased with his new vehicle - it replaces a Hi-lux.

Anyway - I'm sure you'll be happy with your new one (I definitely like the looks of it), and I hope to be making a choice in the next few weeks once I move from a site based to a Perth based role in the company.

    Cheers ........... BM
    BM...

We really liked the Amarok, and if we had something like a 610 Bar Crusher we probably would have gone that way as they are very light to tow...

The Amarok, from what I managed to learn from those with them, is great, tows around 1500kg with no problem at all...
BUT, head up towards 2000kg+ and you become aware of the smaller capacity and the larger mass behind it...
The vehicle would, be stressed quite a lot towing our 19foot SharkCat which is 2300kg on trailer in its lightest form - loaded and fully fuelled it can get closer to 3000kg

The Defender - I Love them... But I've had one, the new ones arent "that" different, and theres the NextGen coming in a year or two... My wife wants to seriously look at the next version...

The D4 - Ticked all the boxes... I like the 3.0, but the 2.7 is a lot cheaper, does the job towing our boat just fine (cruises at 120km/h no problem) with enough in reserve to overtake, pull up all but the worst hills at speed and handles great (The D3 I'm driving now towed my boat 700km at speeds up to 140km/h and felt solid as a rock).
I'll eventually re-map the 2.7l for a little bit more, but over-all I'm very happy with it std.
I get 18's - Not too fussed, But I have a stash of 18" tyres

AND as for colour choice - Time made the decision for me...

I spoke to Sniegy to see what options he recommended and discussed from there. Dealer was asked to advise:

"What do you have in a D4 with- eDiff, Rear Air and Xenon headlights?"
They found 3 vehicles meeting that spec... White, Silver and ??? (Didnt ask)

I wanted White which saved me a bit of cash over metallic...
I got 7 seats in Ebony Leather and the features I wanted...
Once the paperwork is done, its a stock product so quick delivery...

My original quote for Ipanema was 5 months delivery

I actually really like the clean lines of the White (I had a white D1) and when the accessories are left in Black it really breaks up the lines and sets it off!

After having had A Freelander, Rangie, Defender, D1, D2 and the D3 I'm using now (done 3,000km on it - the old boy wont be happy) I must say, if the D4 rides like the D3 (or close enough too - firmer would be better and I believe they are) then I will be a very happy man

The first 4wd outing for the new one will be about 15 minutes after I get back up here to Whyalla.. Pics will follow

    Fuel card included in deal....

Vehicle is coming with tint, Winch bar etc...

When compared to direct finance over 7 years... I get the car for $180.00 per month less than a conventional car loan AND I have no running costs for 5 years... At the end of the 5 years I've saved $10k...

The plan is either move on at end of lease OR keep it and pay it out cash at the end.
Thanks Tombie, wifey needs a new car in the future, but would be pushing to do 25,000k a year, closer to 15,000k, i just manage that (25kk)and i'm cruzing around all day. Looks like another chattle mortgage for me.

Wow. I'm in the same place. Same car same colour options etc. I can do a salary sacrifice at work and typed in the figures on the website. My salary(a bit more that average wage). 5 years but 15000 k a year. The fortnightly costs looked pretty horrendous. $700-$800. And they told me I'd save less that $1800 a year. I could refinance my mortgage and buy it outright.

Their figures factor in fuel, insurance etc which doesn't count in the buy outright sums. But buying outright includes my mortgage repayments (piddling). I just can't get my head around it all. Really need someone to look at my case and help me out.

Paying off 'piddling repayments' on your mortgage may look attractive now but in five years time when the $80,000 vehicle you brought is only worth 30% to 40% of what you paid for it new and you have only paid down 15% of the debt then you may not feel so good about going down that path.

Using your mortgage as a line of credit is fine providing you have the discipline and the ability to pay the extra amount down as quickly as possible otherwise your wasting away the equity in your property.

    cheers,
    Terry

How long's it taking them to fit the extras you've asked for and deliver the car then ?

I've driven past a couple of LR dealers in Melbourne recently, the temptation to stop and go in for a look round has been very strong, sounds daft but after being here for a month now I'm missing not having my RRS. Actually going into a dealer could wind up being expensive though
