    Gateway Toll Ripoff

Before our recent trip to Castle Hill I rang the toll mob to pay for the trip over the bridge. I explaned to the aussie bloke that it was a private camper towing a trailer. No problem he said Class 2 $3.99 each way.
I had looked at their website and class 3 and 4 are both commercial.
Yesterday I checked my debit card balance and found both trips had been charged at $4 something each. It seems the $3.99 is with a transponder and the charge extra for video matching. Thats OK but further down another toll charge for $10.99. Rang again and got an Indian sheila and tried to get from her what that charge was for.I can only understand every other word but it appeard it was extra charges on the same trip because the video showed a big truck towing a car on a trailer so she charged class 4. I tried to explain class 4 was commercial and I was private so class 2. This went back and forth for ages untill I blew my stack and said I wanted a supervisor I could understand.
She put me on hold for about 10 mins then came back and said sorry they had made a mistake and would put $7.00 back in my account. I was unable to understand why the would not put the $10.99 back in but gave up up in disgust. At least a partial victory.
The other thing that ****es me of is why places charge so many dollars and 99c. Why not be honest and call it straight dollars.

My daughter paid for a toll transponder from Govia. It didn't arrive, then they wanted to charge for a replacement, untill she said this is not a replacement, you have not delivered it yet. 2 weeks later she rings up to be told the 2nd unit was returned by Aus Post. They checked that the address was correct. They are sending a 3rd one. We will wait and see.

Got a mate who changed from Go-via to Flow and in the time between removing the Go-via tag and receiving his Flow tag he got stung. He went through a toll point and instead of it automatically charging to his new Flow account it got charged back to Go-via - but they had his old address.

The bill went there and the first he knew of it was when he received a council issued infringement notice about a year later fining him $140!

i received a letter from govia last night stating that my account had ran dry so they were charging me an extra $7 or $8

normally my account recharges its self but as someone had skimmed my card and i had to get a new one so the details were different

they coud have sent me a reminder to say that my card wasnt working and would i like to fix it

but no they just tack on a few more fees and send out the bill

i only use the thing a few times a year so lost track of the card numbers

there good when it comes to adding on a fee or two

By coincidence, this article was in the Courier Mail, Thurs., Oct 13.

" Tolling companies have been accussed of slugging motorists with hefty administrative charges in what is being seen as a desperate grab for cash.Any vehicle using a toll road without a transponder can be liable for extra charges if they don't pay within 3 days. But a Toll Flow customer was shocked to discover a trip thru the Clem7 on 23 August cost him $17.77, because his account had dwindled to $3. Despite topping it up within a few days of using the tunnel, his next account from Flow Toll dated Sept. 6., Charged him $10.92.When he queried the charge in an e-mail after being unable to speak to a person on the phone, a new bill arrived for $ 17.77. the gentleman said he was frustrated with the lack of 'human services' from Flow Toll, unable to speak to anyone to resolve matters quickly.

Another customer was wrongly billed a second time after paying for his trip in January. It took Flow Toll six months to reimburse him for the second payment, after he had produced paperwork proving he had settled the debt.

Another person is being pursued by S.P.E.R.'s for $140 despite settling his late payment of $24.83 for a $ 3.85 toll from the Gateway bridge.Go Via agreed he had paid the debt in July, but ' had no control or abilitry to advise S.P.E.R. ' "

As long as the Story bridge is toll free, you wont get me any where near the Gateway, or the tunnel, I'm not in that much of a hurry, Bob

Well here in Melbourne it's even funnier.
I don't have a tag as the Defender 130 is classed as a commercial vehicle and no amount of calling up Citylink or Eastlink can change that, they maintain that it's listed as that by VicRoads, and don't get me started with them, so in the long run it's cheaper for me to wait for the fine to come to me, I know I only save around $4 but why should I pay for it.

Lack of toll roads indicates a lack of anywhere worth going?

well if the toll roads are foisted onto us , the electorate should then demand a toll booth with a human capable of recognizing the proper payment required and have the ability to give change. i would rather pay some one to do a job than a mal functioning computer that takes my time and money [ fees of varying carriers handling charges etc] .
