Hello to all from a new LR owner

    Hi All,

Ive just bought my first LR Discovery 1 as weekend toy for my family and I. I've had 4x4's before, one an extremely modified 40 series Landcruisr, but I have to say after driving the LRD1 for a few hours i'm converted!

I love the low down torque of the V8 and that sound!!!!!

So as a "newby" to Land Rovers, what should I be looking out for?

Mine is a 1997 DISC94A, 3.9Ltr V8 in Red (so it goes faster)!
I have noticed a loud "ping" under load even with 95 RON, so some advice on that would be great too.

Hoping to get to know you all a lot better!

    Cheers,

    Shamat

    Welcome Sharmat

Love the V8 note, but you may want to put it on LPG. The ping, maybe you want to get it tuned by someone who knows LR. Graeme Cooper Automotive are in St Peters, only do LR products and can dynotune the car. If you're out west KLR or Bruce Davis in the outer West or North West.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Just keep a look out for the same things you did with the Tojo. Stuff like interesting tracks, beaches, mud, sand dunes and other challenges etc. but this time you'll be doing it in comfort and style.
Alternatively, scroll down the forums list until you get to "The Pinnacles" and have a look at "discovery 1", there should be something in there to help you out or maybe have a look at "The good oil" in "Technical Forums".
    Enjoy your Disco.

    Cheers,
    Anthony.

    Welcome, and enjoy it.

Recommend you pull up the carpets, particularly in the front, and have a look for rust.

OK, I'll be sure to do that, but youve got me a little confused. Aren't the Discovery's meant to have an aluminium body panels? If so, how can there be rust?

Some external panels are aluminium, but most of the body structure is steel, including the floor pan.

    G'day Shamat

The D1 is a very competant vehicle so enjoy it, also for your information it is built on the Range Rover Classic 70/92 chassis and running gear,so it has a good heritage yes, the body is mostly Ali but the roof, and main frame is steel, they will go on gas easily, and by removing the fuel tank and placing the bottles there you don't use load space, there is also a small fuel tank that fits behind the R/rear wheel that takes about 20litres

Enjoy! as after you have had a constant 4 wheel drive you will never go back to a split system again
