Maxxi Bighorns - price in 4wd action??

Just read an article reviewing the Maxxi Bighorns. They quote them as being a 'Top End' tyre pricewise. All I can say is that they are buying them from the wrong tyre sellers!

I like the Maxxi's because they represent good value, they wear reasonably well and they seem to be a strong tyre (never had a puncture). They've performed well on every surface inclusing mud, rocks and sand.

My research has shown BFG's to be around the $370 mark, I would consider THEM as a 'Top End' tyre, hence why I think the Maxxi's are good value.

I've had a good run out of mine (70,000 km) and have just ordered a new set (235/85/16). I DO get a very good deal from the guy I use but he told me that normal retail is around $300 each. So where does 4wd Action get a price of $415 each for 305/70/16's? Seems like bull**** to me.

I would suggest that 305/70/16 may be an odd size and that may be why there is a price difference?
Does anyone know off hand if this is a standard or normal choice of tyre size?
At $300 they are only just worth it, last time I checked they were $250, but that was over a year ago and I had already fitted Hankooks as there was no dealer in Esperance when I needed some (Dealer only set up 12 months after I bought the Hankooks and I enquired about the price when fitting Maxxis to the Staesman and trailer. At over $400, forget it.

Maxxis tyres are overpriced for the most part, you ned to shop around. I remeber when they were a bit of an unknown and they used to be a hell of a lot cheaper but now are a well know brand and like most things the price goes up.

I know of several people who can get them for a good price, 33's for less than $300 even in a 16 (285/75R16). I priced a set of 255/85's a while back for $310 a tyre, at the time it seemed like a good price compared to the KM2 BF which was more up the $370 mark. To me that repesents good value.

As I said in my opening, I get looked after pretty well. I get mine for a bit under $250 so for me they are excellent value for money.

I bought 235/85/16 Bighorns ($235 each or 4 for $935) at Tyres for Less - Villawood Road, Fairfield (Western Sydney).

I thought that was okay. They fitted and balanced 6 in about 20 minutes, loaded them in the back of my car and were good blokes - it was a pretty hot day and they hooked in and got the job done quickly.

The retail prices of tyres skyrocket once you get to the larger less common sizes, try pricing a 315/75/16,there is a huge jump in price.
The other thing to take into account,is the retailers "retail price" as to the recommended retail price from the importer/manufacturer.
    These are often very different
