Yeah I know what you mean, jeeps are for bashing, rovers are for touring.

    Absolutely...

...it just ticks me off that people are sounding soooo knowledgeable about the DC100 and already slating it, with 'information' based on looking at a couple of pictures of concept cars!

Considering that there is virtually no information available about it except for a couple of pictures, it is understandable that people base their views entirely on these. From the pictures it is clear that it differs in several practical respects from the current Defender, particularly in areas such as flat, near vertical glass, long term parts commonality (which is not going to happen with a new design anyway) and tyre/mudguard clearance.

With almost nothing revealed about the really important features - such as door sills no higher than floors, engine and transmission details, range of available body types and how they can be interchanged (for example is a trayback dual cab even possible? How about a Mulgo type roof conversion?), it is hardly surprising that comments are based mainly on appearance (which I have to admit is a bit unfortunate!) although I have always been bemused by the emphasis people place on appearance in utility vehicles.

Why Land Rover’s trusty Defender keeps on rolling – Fleet Voice | Fleet Directory News

There is some suspicion among pundits that Land Rover’s chief designer. Gerry McGovern is not the ideal man to recreate the Defender for the future. This idea stems from McGovern’s liking for jewelled lights and other styling flourishes.
The Defender community could not be further from this end of Land Rover’s spectrum, so it seems necessary that the next Defender sticks with the current car’s preference for function over form.
Dietsch is quick to ally fears on this front and points out the DC100 concept is only one of five projects being considered for the next Defender.
As far as this column is concerned, here’s hoping the DC100 is consigned to the styling department’s waste paper bin for good.

I wonder if they'll release the same prototype at Dubai and California, or reveal two other contenders.

Maybe it's a countdown, and they start with the ugliest and finish five shows later with the winner.
