It is also interesting that as far as I am aware the Discovery has won the title every year since they started the rating / test back on 2004/2005.

Correct. The Discovery has now won 7 in a row, so that take it back to 2005.

Why do they keep comparing the D4 to a Prado, they are in two different leagues and even comparing it to an LC200 would show the D4 is leagues in front of that.

^^^^^^^ That is exactly right, the bone heads need to look at the spec sheets, comparing it to the LC200 would be much fairer, might give the Prado a chance if its compared to a few softies like itself, come to think of it if LR upgraded the Disco a bit (make it seat 8 period), then they could bring out an entry level (read affordable) 4wd to compete with Prados and Pathfinders and sell it to the masses (which is what Discovery was supposed to be just like landcruiser was).

Unfortunately the new Jeep Grand Cherokee beat the Discovery 4 in the Hearld Sun 4wd of the year. LR lost mostly due to entry price.

On a different note I also read the Toyota is bringing out a base model LC200, with barn doors, 5 seats, air con (not climate control) driver side electric window and single CD player for only $77,000.00.
This is for the mining / agriculture sector or to be used as a starting point for building a "touring" vehicle.

It's already out. The local toymotor stealership has one here on the Gold Coast. It's a bit like the old Telecom special 100 series.
I bet you dont see that article on the Toymotor forums though.
