If anyone's interested in a dystopian view of organ donation, read some of Larry Niven's novels -

If you lived in the UK during the BSE/CJD epidemic, you are likely off the organ donor list here also.

While there are a number of exclusions to the donor bank for blood and organs, the last thing we want is to transplant/transfuse a product into another human who's resistance is already lowered.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

It's just what I heard through the grapevine. I apologize if what I said is absolute bull****.

But you could not be any farther from the truth!

Accepting that I have only worked in health for 37 years and 95% of that time was in the emergency department or intensive care, so my experience may not be very accurate. However in that insignificant period of time, I have never witnessed the behaviour you speak of.

By the time you get old, your organs may not be much use!

As I said before, It's just what I heard through the grapevine and I apologize if it's absolute bull****. About the Sigma, It was with a 2k cash difference my way but I declined anyway. It amazes me how people on AULRO still remember small things like that.

    I'm still betting....

I totally understand that sentiment Diana, but I feel that it is perhaps a bit of overkill. Given that there have been only 176 confirmed or probable cases of vCJD in the UK between 1990 and 2011 (see here) I think that there are greater risks to be worried about.

The 3 drivers in my family are all listed as organ doners on our licences.

On top of this, we have discussed it, as well as with the 2 youngest, and we are all clear what our wishes are.

I have been a blood doner before, and am happy to do it again. Surgery in recent years means that my donations have been a bit sporadic. From what I understand, the human body actually functions better to replace the blood taken during a donation. If so, then its good for you, and good for the receipient. Win win situation.

Organ donation will always be an emotive issue, along with life support etc. However, I figure that if they can find some bits of me to use to re-build someone else, then go for it. It's a bit like recycling Landies....

Well, First of all, I'd just like to say anyone with an ounce of intelligence knows that getting mad and having a rant to someone on a internet forum is utterly stupid. So calling me stupid and such isn't saying much about yourself. You have to calm down a little.

And I don't need to calm down - I just don't tolerate idiots well...
