There has been some willow up near us since early last century.

They still make cricket bats onsite.
A small colection/museum around the walls of the cafe too.
Worth stoping at if your into cricket.
    Cheers, Kyle

There's a cricket bat willow plantation somewhere near Nyah, on the Murray in Victoria. The trees are nothing like weeping willows, they're tall and straight like a poplar.

I must go and have a look there one day - I have tried before, but the look I got off SWMBO made me change my plans...

I'll have to go for a drive on my own one day...

Or we could make it an "arvo tea stop" on a drive through Wombat one day
    Cheers, Kyle

Done! Let me know when - I'll make sure I don't tell SWMBO about it until we get there, then I'll look all innocent and say "Honestly honey, I thought we were going to the Chocolate Factory"...

As an ex Essex lad I've been around 'cricket bat trees' for years. The best willow comes from trees grown along streams and rivers in that county. The seasoned wood is frequently exported to Australia where, apparently, some of the best cricket bats are made.

I learned all this at the Essex cricket ground in Chelmsford, so quote them, not me, I'm no expert.
