    Anyone know/have contacts who are into classic Volkswagens?

    A friend has asked me to sell her immaculate 70's VW type 3 wagon. She has never driven it as she has only an automatic licence so she wants to sell it but has no knowledge about cars. Her folks were going to stick it out the front of the house for $1000 but I told her it should be considerably more valuable than that.

    Anyone know of any sister forums or have any friends who know a little about these cars? I could just stick it on ebay or carsales but would like to look at other options first and thought it might be worth a try putting it out there and seeing if anyone knows someone who is an enthusiast.

    I know a couple but they are both away on leave and wont be back till january

    I've seen decent quality vdubs go for 2500.

    Try www.kombiclub.com that's a really good website based in Aus, Kombi orientated but any VW get's them excited, i bought my Kombi off a guy there, good bunch of peeps...

    Agree, those guys are beyond fanatics.

    I've owned 2 type 3 square backs (Wagons) and a notch back (Sedan), beautiful cars, great to drive and go anywhere like a Landrover and also like a landrover a bit under powered.

    I would say I would buy it for a grand but I have no room and I'd be ripping her off.

    Best to keep it until after Christmas though.

    You could possibly put an automatic box in it. there were a few auto type 3s. I had several Type 3s, and love them.

    Somebody once gave me a low mileage auto T3 wagon with mechanical issues. I got it running and registered it as it was too good to scrap. Lovely car to drive. IMO the auto has some significant issues and most were swapped out for manuals when they gave problems. You would have to find a donor car for all the parts as there are quite a few unique auto parts, like the CV shafts are shorter, the gear selector etc.

    Best opportunity for the friend to finally get a manual licence? Then she can graduate to a series...

    Top cars the old ones,,

    We had a one of these and the fastback too, and a couple of bugs,,, very nice cars to drive, and my first car was a 64 beatle,, so easy to learn to drive in, you can hear the motor properly, their very forgiving for a learner,,
    Wanted to buy an old bug one a little while ago,, its been done up and has what looks like old Porshe type wheels on it,,, to my amazment, they want like 10G for it,,

    Interestingly I love them. Was wanting one before buying the rover. If I wasn't so attached to the series 3 I'd buy this one as they are great cars. I actually restored one of the first 11 type 3 wagons that came to Australia in 1962 (officially released in 1963) as a test batch, given to company reps and other high mileage drivers. Mine belonged to Golden fleece petroleum, had been through the 74 floods, went round the clock more times than could be counted, ran out of rego in 1979 and sat in the original owners front yard under a tarp. Not run or touched until 1990 when I got it. New battery and new petrol and it turned over with no troubles. Great little cars.

    Who knows, I may be tempted to cross the fence if it is nice enough.....anyone want to buy a S3?
