    Hang on folks, be nice.

Doug has asked a legitimate question and deserves practical answers.

This is NOT like a certain individual who came on this forum and made some ridiculous claims.

Doug has asked for feedback, so those with genuine experience, please help him out.

Hi Doug and can you give us an idea of your set up and how you intend to use it and why you are considering a DC/DC device.

No expert by any stretch, but I've been using a PowerTech Plus DC adaptor($30-$40) to run my notepad full time for the past few months without any issues.
Whilst on the subject, Do any electronic whizz kids here know where i can buy or how to make a power cord to use a DC adaptor on an Apple notepad computer? Apple themselves don't list one, they only do an Aircraft adaptor.
Powering my daughters school computer with an invertor eats up my limited battery storage capacity and requires at least 12 volts, except when just charging, wheras everything else will run at lower voltages.

Is this the link to WW III ?

It was a lot of fun and instructive, well worth a look, even if its not the thread you had in mind .

I am no expert on this at all, but this is my solution to my issue:

CTEK D250S Dual combines both alternator and solar charging says Battery World - Information Articles Go See Australia Directory

It is a CTEK D250S which is located in the vehicle and even takes a solar panel as input, and then it does some DC-DC stuff to charge a remote deep cycle battery.

I believe you can locate the 2nd battery quite a way from the charger and even with voltage drop over a distance the CTEK unit works out how much charge to send to the 2nd battery.

Nicely made (in Sweden I think) and not too expensive ($300-odd from memory).

    Cheers
    David
