    Whitney Houston dead at 48

not sure you all know or care...

Whitney Houston, superstar of records, films, dies

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, has died. She was 48.

Publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unclear.

At her peak in the 1980s and '90s, Houston the golden girl of the music industry and one of the world's best-selling artists.

Among her hits were "How Will I Know," "Saving All My Love for You" and "I Will Always Love You." She won multiple Grammys including album and record of the year.

Her success carried her beyond music to movies like "The Bodyguard."

But by the end of her career, drug use took its toll as her record sales plummeted and her voice became raspy and hoarse.

yeh not really my style, but sad non the less that a person is grasped by drugs to cope with life.

weather you famous or not, it's the same feeling of loss to family and friends.

She sang in the vineyards in the Hunter Valley about 2 years ago and people who bought tickets to the concert remarked on how bad she was. Really sad!! Drugs, I believe her then husband, led her down that path!!

Janis Joplin, Whitney Houston, the beat goes on. Their star shines bright, then flares up in a furnace of self destruction. It seems such a waste, but perhaps their personalities are such they would have destructed wherever their life led them. I will try to remember her music at its best, which was excellent, Drugs, will we ever be free from their scourge? Bob

That was a shock to see the headline on bigpond news

I always had a soft spot for whitney and I was hoping that one day she might see the light and end up like her cousin Dionne Warwick, sadly that won't happen now.

A sad end. I'm not really a fan of Whitney but she did record a track with one of my favorite bands in 1982 which I think may well have been her first released recording.

It's quite an amazing performance, and still gives me chills.
