There is some expence to it but as the truck is unregistered its about the same to re-register no matter what state. In nsw you will require a blue slip ( roadworthy and id check) and a green slip (3rd party insurance)
But a toyota?![]()
Hi,
As some of you may remember I asked a while back about whether to buy a land rover or not for my Auz adventure....now interestingly ive managed to find a toyota land cruiser bush-camper with pop-up roof (id prefer to the huge tall ones) for sale in Sydney. A German chap has offered it for sale.
Now to the question, the vehicle has northern territory plates on it and the rego has expired. Are there any hidden costs in changing it to lets say a NSW registration? I have been thinking that in the long term this might be better but is it not as simple/easy as that?
Many thanks,
Hugh

Rego for that sort of vehicle is about $400
Blue slip inspection ( because it's interstate) $50
Green slip - varies with age and where you live. av $400
Set of NSW plates: $50
Stamp duty $2 per $100 purchase value.
That's all the RTA should charge
Provided that you have a signed receipt that matches the old rego papers ( Not necessarily the name of the previous owner in NT), and proof of NSW residency ( something as simple as rent receipt) the process should be hassle free.
Of course I could be wrong.
Highly likely with the RTA - now R & M .
If travelling for a long period and you are able, get it registered in a state that does not require annual roadworthy inspections like the ACT or Vic. Might save a little bit of hassle if you are in WA when rego becomes due and have to get a NSW roadworthy done.

WA and QLD don't require annual roadworthys. NT probably wouldn't either?
In fact NSW would be the WORST state to register it in, most expensive and you have annual roadworthys!
A large number of backpacker's cars I have seen are registered in WA for the above reasons...
Yep. I'd avoid NSW, too.

Why not get the german chap to re-register it in NT,even if you spring for the rego, then you will have a registered vehicle with possibly no yearly inspection and the rego would probably be cheaper than NSW, and Qld is not cheap for rego,Vic would be the next option![]()
SA ; when u register it for the 1st time it will go over the pit for a full inspection... Then u pay a %age of its value when u register it.... Then no further rwc etc unless u get a serious defect notice from the plod...which may cause another trip to the pit... I would just get the previous owner to rego it for 12months and pay him... As long as you know his client number/license no u can keep the rego done online... SA :no rego labels any more... James
