Tasmania has no roadworthy on purchase of vehicle or annual inspections. But you need to have a Tasmanian address to have the vehicle registered to.
Maybe care of a caravan park you stayed in.
Have a look and the beautiful Isle and then take ferry across to mainland Australia.

SA - Same as WA (?)
VIC ? RWC only when vehicle changes hand or defect notice.
    ACT ?
    TAS ?

Never seen a RWC in SA, there are vehicle identity checks for interstate vehicles, repairable write-off inspections, defect and engineering inspections, but no regular RWC.

    NSW - annual Roadworthy
    NT - annual Roadworthy
QLD - Seller must obtain RWC (Safety Certificate) prior to sale.
WA - NO Roadworthy ("Over the pits") except for unregistered vehicles or interstate vehicles owned for less than 12 months by the registering party Interstate or overseas vehicle NO Rego sticker
SA - same as WA (except for 12 month rule possibly)
    VIC - same as QLD
TAS - same as WA (except for 12 month rule possibly) - also still have rego sticker unlike WA and SA
    ACT - same as QLD

All states require RWCs for vehicles deemed defective by transport or police inspectors.

ACT only requires a RWC on change of ownership or out of rego for more than 12 months.

    Thanks, have edited above.

So, it looks like the preference for registration would be:

    WA / SA
    TAS

    VIC
    ACT
    QLD

    NT
    NSW

I believe VIC and WA have the cheapest rego on the mainland???

No - not the same as Qld. The ACT does not require the RWC before sale - to keep vehicle in rego the RWC must be presented within 4 weeks (maybe 2 weeks not sure). Unlike QLD it is not an offence to sell a registered vehicle without a RWC - if the RWC is not presented the rego is cancelled.

WA will require an immobiliser to be fitted if it doesn't already have one.

Hmm SA is best as previously mentioned. PM me if any SA questions I work for them

Road worthy is not required for interstate transfer, just a identity inspection as beeutey said, how ever its upto the inspectors discretion doing the identity check to then point out and possibly enforce a roadworthy.

I simply ensured a very oil leaky range rover I took through was steam cleaned the morning I took it in for a engine number/vin/chassis number checkls and was fine, how ever they also will enforce on the spot rwc requirement if you have rust issues.

Then again it might be pointless trying to figure out where's best to rego it as you have to prove you live in that state anyway dont you?
