    Speeding penalties QLD

IF you get 12 points , you have the options to

A have your licences suspended for 3 months
B drive under care for a year.

What happens after the 3 months? you lose all your points?

( its not me either) but at the rate they are putting camera every where it will be soon.

Any useful info would be welcome..

If its like NSW you can do the 3 months then start back with 12 points again but if you get caught driving in that 3 months its 2 years without a license
Yeh silly of me but that was a long time ago, then you have to do all your tests again

This is in NSW so QLD might be similar given the demerit point scheme is national...don't want to sound like a nark, but you don't lose points, you accrue them (to a threshold).

If you are notified of a suspension period due to excess demerit points you may apply for a 'Good behaviour' period (but you must do this BEFORE the suspension period starts) which allows you to keep on the road with a 'new' threshold of one demerit point. If you are booked (with a DP offence) during that period, you serve double the previous suspension period.

After the suspension period ends you resume normal conditions and licence status. DP's are usually cleared every three years.

One thing I can't understand is the ability to increase demerit points on public holidays. E.g. What would normally be a one point offence can be a two point offence on holidays.
Surely the law should state the number of points for the offence and that's that?

I think that's based on statistics showing that there are more accidents on long weekends, combination of people driving like idiots and more cars on the roads. Various state govts introduced laws to increase them on during public holiday periods. I think it's a good idea as it hopefully makes people think more carefully about what they are doing.

Thanks for that. Coming from the UK where this does not happen. I could not understand how you could have a law which says one thing one day and another the next.

    Thanks

The double point period only applies to (excess) speed, seatbelt and helmet offences (in NSW). It's apparently a deterrent because they reckon more people get dead or injured during that period from those offences. The financial penalty stays the same.
