That's pretty much close to the truth - there is a Land Rover dealer there in Port Stanley and not much else. I gather that they try to guess what people want and ship them in bulk from the UK.

Not wanting to start an argument on who 'owns' the Falklands/Malvinas and what it is based on, beyond possession being 9/10th of the rule, but you would be genuinely surprised at how deeply felt the UK occupation is in the hearts of ordinary Argentines. There are memorials from one end of the country to the other and every second airport is named after them.

I happened to be in Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego last year on the anniversary day of the invasion and it was like Anzac Day here - the town turned out in mass to solemnly pay respect to their dead. It was actually quite moving. Needless to say I was probably the only person there holding a positive thought for the other side.............

    Cheers,

They didn't need ya because they had the Gurkhas, they were like a plague across the islands apparently they could out yomp the paras and the marines, awesome short smiling killers, I read that the argies infrantry heard about the Gurkahs arrival and as a result the officers started shooting the conscripts in the feet to make them stay in their scraps whilst the officers ran back to Stanley.
I met some gurkah signallers once really happy guys just big smiles really friendly, possibly different with a weapon in their hands?!

Given that Ireland is closer to England than the Falkland Islands are to Argentina, using Argentina's "by right" argument, England owns Ireland by right, France owns England by right, Australia owns Papua New Guinea by right, it could go on ad nauseum. The fact remains Argentina never had any population on the Falklands and in the era or European colonialism Spain didn't defend their claim on the place, the only country that populated the islands and subsequently defended them were the British. The only question should be if the Islanders want to be British or an independent nation and how will that be defended.

The Argentinians can mourn their failed conquest and colonialism and honour their war dead. But they have no more right to claim the place than France has to England.

Considering sean penn has visited brutal dictators to offer them support purely because the west despises them shows what a misguided loser he is. I am sure that penn, baldwin and sarandon have a little competion going to see who can out do jane fonda.

p.s I deliberately did not use capital letters for their names as I have no respect for them what so ever and I no longer watch any of their movies.

    Onya Booger.
I was not long out of the Navy back then, watching the news wondering if there would be a recall. NBCD specialist, never knew when they'd grab me for yet another dirty job.

As for Mr penn and co? bah humbug, they never made a movie worth watching so got to get limelight somehow lol.

Except maybe for the Sarondon girl, she was kinda cute in Rocky Horror Show.

lucky you, i was sitting in an apartment over looking a long bit of black, counting them in counting them out, making a phone call and expecting a knock ( or being kicked in) on the door. the native fervour at the time was intense to say the less.

Much worse than Indo’s, indo much people no land Australia much land no people protests

A nice story but not quite true. the argis were not all that bad in a scrap, well some of them anyway. Considering the similarities in kit on the day. it really shows up the differences in men training 5th and propaganda( influence) which were all in the poms favour the Vulcan’s over the airstrip even though they missed was the first defeat for the argis
they having been told that the poms would never arrive and next minute out of the blue the bombs are falling, ( how the feek did that happen) the sinking of a few pommy ships was taken buy the pommy public as a sad loss raised anger towards the argies, where the sinking of the Belgarus ( name) seemed to me to have a national cloud of doom form over the argis.
The propaganda in argi land when the poms hit the beach was intense but all confidence in their political and military leaders had about vanished buy day 4 when the poms were still there.
The Gurkahs never landed and were not used during the conflict. However you are correct in there affect on the argis. I understand that the dirty business on house clearing which the argis avoided and which the Gurkahs were brought along for is why the agrgis avoided!!
Now this is a MK1 statement. a couple of days later the Gurkahs were let of to stretch their legs after being on board for so long. While disembarking they spotted a bunch of argis conscripts ready to embark. dropping most of their kit they made a bee line towards the argis. Bananas in hand. the potential blood bath was avoided only because 2 para without orders formed a DP around the now panicking pimply faced argi kids. that’s what i saw.
what i was told was that it was rehearsed and planed to scare the living bejeses out of the argis officers who were in view ( although i didn’t see them) just to get the message home. IE we didn’t even get started on you guys yet!!!
