    Lakeside Tribute Race Meeting

    March 24-25, 2012

Lakeside Park has been an icon for motoring enthusiasts for more than half a century. In 2011 people flocked from around the world to celebrate 50 years of motor racing by the Lake. In 2012 the party continues with the Lakeside Tribute Race Meeting on March 24th and 25th.
The first race at Lakeside was on March 14th, 1961 and there were 33 entries. In 2012 there will be a fine display of pre 1980 built race cars on the track to pay tribute to the original builders of the track and the racers who competed.
One feature of the Lakeside Tribute Race Meeting will be the Group N Touring Cars competing in Round 1 of the Queensland Cup. Group N Touring Cars are an Australian motor racing category for touring cars built before December 1972 and they guarantee great racing action.

Other racing categories will include Trans Am where American Muscle cars from the 1963 - 1974 era will fight for supremacy on the track. The category is focused on 2 door/4 seater Americian Muscle Cars and features marques such as Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, AMC and Pontiac.

Group S cars will also be racing. Based on mildly modified production sports cars, Group S is designed to provide a forum for competitors to race cars from the '50s, '60s and '70s in a form similar to period club racing.

Finally there will regularity events. Regularity events are designed to test the driver's consistency in driving. The events are timed, usually 15-20 minutes. Each competitor nominates a time they believe can be kept. Points are deducted for variance in this time. The driver who has lost the least amount of points at the end of the event is deemed the winner.

The fourth weekend in March is guaranteed to provide Historic Racing action for competitors and spectators alike. Be sure you don't miss any of the action. See you there.

Might go even though I can't stand the asshole that acquired Lakeside. An old mate of mine was an official at the first Lakeside, owned and raced cars there and attempted to buy it (Yes, very wealthy man) some time before he died suddenly in 2004. He pulled out when he found that the straight alongside the lake had been sold or resumed by the then council and Mayor Yvonne was totally opposed to resumption of motor sport there.

Might go and lift a drink in his memory.

Let me know if you are going Brian, we may be able to meet up. The dates are between meetings at Eastern Creek and Launceston, so I'm not sure if I'll get back to town.
