    300 TDI advice - please

    Hi,

    Looking at purchasing a 1999 300 TDI.

    What are the key things to be looking out for when inspecting the vehicle?

    What are some of the key questions to ask?

    Any advise most welcome.

    Are you sure it is a 1999 model? The engine was changed to the TD5 around 1998. My 1998 Defender has an October compliance plate and would have been close to the last of the 300Tdi run.

    Is it a Discovery or a Defender?

    1973 Series III LWB 1983 - 2006
    1998 300 Tdi Defender Trayback 2006 - often fitted with a Trayon slide-on camper.

    Hi,

    My defender was converted from V8 to 300tdi in UK using a BN, genuine engine (2002), made in Brazil.

    Maybe he is being offered one of the nice ROW defenders manufactured by Land Rover with td5 dash and 300tdi under the bonnet...

    He's adamant its a 300tdi not a td5. Off to check it out tomoz night. Hopefully it all checks out.

    Any advise on areas to really pay attention to?

    Check that it isn't an import as mentioned above - that will lower the value. Also check the vin plate to see what year is on there. I suspect it may be a late '98 model that was first registered in '99. I once test drove a "1999" 300Tdi disco auto with my BIL. Can't remember the year on the vin now, but he thought it was slow so didn't buy it.

    There are Discos and Defenders Tdi300 made in 1999.
    My son, Carlos have a 1999 Disco and in the forum is a member with a 1999 Tdi300 Defender.
    Have a look when they fitted the new timming belt and upgrade of the pulleys.
