Whilst I also find the aethetics of series 1 bodies appealing, they are tinny, rattly, leaky, and ergonomically quite horrid. I would rather walk, regardless of the udercarriage they were mounted on.
Bill.
I’ve always thought it would be great to have the aesthetics of 80” Series 1, along with the reliability / comfort / whatever of something a bit more modern.
Would it be theoretically (and legally) possible to put a Series One body (yes I know we all have these lying around) on some more modern chassis? Wouldn’t have to a a LR because obviously a RR chassis or Defender chassis would be too big. Maybe a suzuki chassis or something?
Don’t flame me I’m just interested in what MIGHT be possible.

No because amongst other things the headlights are too close together,
I'd rather do it the other way around, Start with a RRC or a Ninety as in this case and make it look like a vintage car,
Bill, you have to admit this would be fun at your place.
Also the series 3 that some guy in england turned into Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Love the green roadster Don.
Chitty not so much.

Why not just buy a Suzuki and not pretend to be an 80"?
The problem with the 80" is that the distance between the seat box and the steering wheel. Its O.K if you're about 5' 6" but your knee start hitting your chin if you're much over 5'10".
A lot of people have retrofitted SII axle assemblies and SIII steering boxes turned upside down, and Mal Story even did one where he used a PAS box out the front, a P38a PAS box would be O.K. sitting on the outside of the chassis.
You can even fit SII pedals by modifying the firewall and if you were really keen, fit coil suspension and disk brakes using the RR spring mounts, early RRc hubs and swivels but narrowing the track by using SIIa/SIII 88" housings. (Defender/RRc/D1/D2 track is too wide for the 80" IMHO)
A lot of people use a 3.5litre V8 in 80" in the UK (you don't need any more power than that) but you could use a Tdi200.300 and Defender box so long as you didn't use the OEM fans.
You will need to fit the headlamps in the end of the mudguards.
No I have never thought about it!![]()

NCF Sahara, Mate.
Defender shape on a D1 Chassis.
Can just buy the flip front (Windscreen forward) if you're not keen on the full body chop.

Dave.
This S1/Disco/RRC hybrid was built by Ralph Posch in Brisbane.
(and again in the background)
It was originally 3.5V8, then 4.4V8, now 3.9Tdi, with LT95. Wheelbase is 100", Many of the panels are custom.
Originally had RRC axles F/R, now has a rear salisbury. F+R MD lockers.
Fully approved (as an ICV AFAIR). Now registered in Tassie.
Dave they talk about the flip front but no pics.
Hmm a flip front for the 130 would be... no.... no.
OK well maybe the Series 1 80" itself not such a good diea but there's always other Series 1 Landies...
Oh and I like the green roadster you posted 'goingbush'. Very inventive and it would keep people guessing...That would look really cool over on Fraser Island... especially with a matching trailer....

Great minds think alike Vlad !!
I thought of that long long ago & it's been in the back of my mind - I still track the Ebay series sales..
I have a Diahatsu Feroza sitting in the Garage for when my daughter soon turns 16, to learn to drive in. I have always missed having a ragtop and, for the grand it cost me, would love to graft the feroza works under the series body once she gets sick of the Feroza. Surely if it were engineered it would get thru ??
An 86 or 88 are a much easier conversion as the footwell is very similar to the Defender so you can use bits off off one of those.
