    Used looking 'new' Britpart parts....

Hi, bit of a strange one. Ordered 2 timing chain kits for 3.9 V8s from island4x4 in the UK. The (in a sealed Britpart box) crankshaft sprocket looks distinctly used - appears to have been cleaned and still has visible black baked on grease in the key way and between the teeth. This goes for both of them.

One of the Cam chain wheels also looks slightly used, one looks new.

Anyone ordered these parts from Britpart before - did you get brand new, shiny parts?

    Cheers!

Wouldn't surprise me from those rogues. I bought a drive chain for a borg-warner transfer case from them and it was not able to be fitted due to being manufactured incorrectly; when I contacted them they said they would look into it and get back to me. Still waiting a year later. I guess it's a risk you take buying from across the planet, too expensive to send the thing back. If I happen to travel there in the next couple of years I will be paying them a visit.

You are really talking about island 4X4 as the retailer.
    Britpart is the wholesaler/distributor.
Your initial enquiry should be with Island 4X4.
I have never seen a used looking part from Britpart itself and I buy quite a bit.

The Britpart numbers are: ERR2958 and 610298.

Will try to get photos later.

I contacted island4x4 earlier today and they say the used look is "due to the American manufacturer using a rough cast process to make them". Surely they would machine at least the teeth of the sprocket if this was the case?

    Cheers!
