    Car sale scammers?

I have a car on here for sale that I also listed up on Trading post today and it will appear on ebay tomorrow.

Tonight I received 2 unusual texts on the phone.

    1. With a strange number like +6016349...6 and the message reads( as it is spelt exactly except I have added dots so you don't see the address)

Do u still have the Motor (4x4) for sale? please reply to me at susan.....01@gmail.com. Susan.

    2. Number is something like+157320....9 and it reads LANDROVER still for available for sale. kindly reply with your final asking price to"phil.... at live.com

With the second one have I not put a fianl asking price in both ads so far?

Even the ebay one tomorrow has a starting price and a buy it now price but they could not see that one yet as it doesn't start until 7.00pm tomorrow.

Don't tell me not to text back because I already did and in my text I said to both parties. "call me after 10.00 Australian EST tomorrow ?

Dont worry about sending text back, all that will happen is that they will annoy you for a while.

It is a scam and works a bit like this.

They say they want to buy the car unseen.

They then agree to pay you more than your asking price.

They then say because they are overseas they will use an agent to collect it.

They then say there is a problem with the money transfer but promise it has been sent.

They then ask you to pay the agent so the car can be picked up and that they will fix you up for the fee with the rest of the payment.

Once you pay the fee that is the last you hear from them, gotcha.

It was all over the current affairs shows last year and I just rescued my neighbours 18 year old son from being caught because they called me to ask what the most secure way to pay the fee over the internet was.

I'm sure you can come up the correct response to their next email

If you replay to the email they are going to say that at the present time they are working in an oil rig but if you send them your bank details they are going to deposit on it the money that you ask plus another $1000 to pay for your good will.

Post your adds in carsales, you have more protection from these crooks.
Do not post in gumtree, you will be bombarded with messages in your mobile

Just put a footnote on the ad saying "Sorry phone number only for phone calls - I don't read messages"

I rarely sell enything on e-bay or the newspaper. Usually stuff I have bought at auction that has been in stock too long, or stuff I have too much of. My terms are alway "inspect and pick-up in Brisbane, payment by cash only".

Yeah Pete, they are a PITA. Sold the old Pulsar a couple of weeks back. Even for a car advertised for $2K, I got 6 replies that weren't legit - all text messages. It was easy to tell the ones who are on the level - they RING the number and talk to you, and say things like "I'll pay cash", and they ask questions about the car.

I just sent a text back to each dogey one saying "I'd be happy to take a phone call from you - please ring me, no scammers!"

I got 3 actual phone calls for the car - all legit, and the second one bought it cash with cash the next day. Hope you get some real punters in who are interested.

    Cheers - Gav

    Hey,

Is that your Isuzu up on ebay?

    Nice ,looking truck.

On the note of the texts....Im looking to buy in Sydney atm and i judge a sellers keeness to sell on whether they reply or whether they respond to a voicemail left on the phone.....
It really is surprising ho many dont
