The manufacture of my seat covers told me they double stitch everywhere except around the air bags. In this region they just single stitch.
No idea whether this works, is approved or what. I asked a similar question a while ago - no answers.
I want to get some front seats covers to protect the seats on my 2000 4.6 HSE. I dont want to spend ridiculous amounts for OEM stealer covers, and many of the normal priced ones say 'not for use with side airbags'.
I like the airbags, and my life, but what modification do seat covers have that can be used with the air bags, surely it is naught more than a weak point in the seam of the cover where the airbag exits??? Wouldnt then a strategic cut of ordinary seat cover serve the same purpose?

Can't remember where I read it, but it was an article on seat covers and getting the maximum resale value bla bla bla. It sort of went like this:
Why do we use seat covers? to protect the seats of course. But what we are doing is possibly ruining them. If the fabric on the seat cover is not a high enough quality and a good enough fit, it may actually rub and wear out the seats quicker than your jeans will.
They then go on to recommed a particular brand of seat cover or just using a high quality leather protectant for best results.
The way I look at it is why bother? you can buy a replacement leather section for as little at 10 pounds on ebay uk. plus freight etc. You would probably only be replacing the seat bases on the front seats anyway... It may be more economically viable to do it this way once in your ownership, particularly if cheap seat covers may ruin the seat anyway, and this is always a part that gives a first impression of the interior.
Food for thought, that's all
Just checked ebay uk more thoroughly... 199pounds for both front seat covers NEW
