I dont know how this really works but $275 mil is $10mil/per man woman and child in this country. If every driver in australia was given the option of a tax deductable gift by the govt that mean they ONLY can purchase a new Holden of there choice at govt expense, wouldnt this stimulate the GMH manufacturing at a fraction of the cost of giving them a $275mil handout? Makes sense to me. Next year they could give Ford a turn.....it still wont cost anywhere near $275mil

Yep, and all to save about 6,000 jobs.
Lots of talk about all the component manufacturers too, oddly Dana, a Chrysler subsiduary, makes most of Holdens suspensions.
That's going to save a lot of Aussie jobs.
Castalloy in Adelaide has closed, they used to make just about all the small alloy bits like thermostat housings etc, and Harley Davidson wheels, heads, gearbox casings.
I don't see this lasting too long anymore, far too cheap to produce those bits in Asia.
Well at least the wife and I still have our slightly secondhand Aussie 6's and the old Aussie built Landy, I even buy Aussie made guitars (Maton and Ashton) rather than anything else.

$275m is more like $10 per person in Australia. $10 is still more than I'd pay for a new dunnydore though...

I've been a Holden man all my life, but the current model Commodore is a travesty of a vehicle. It is by far one of the worst cars I have ever driven, and it amazes me they can sell such rubbish to an unsuspecting public. Not only are they a bad car to drive, they are unreliable - I'm not just talking about my own experience here - we have 70 of them (All under 2 years old) in our Victorian fleet, and there is always something going wrong with somebodys. From minor stuff like shudddering brakes (That can happen to any car) to full rewires of vehicles, transmissions, engine issues - low power & not reving, did I mention transmissions???

Anyway, you get the idea of what I'm on about. How does a manufacturer expect to be able to be viable when they are selling this crud? I bought an 89, VN Commodore way back in 91 when it had just 38KKM on the clock. We got rid of it last year with 380KKM on the clock, and it never left me stranded, and it was a better car to drive than my latest model POS. The transmission actually kicked down when I stood on the thottle, not faffed around for 5 seconds like the new ones do trying to work out what gear it should be in...

Why are they making a loss - because they have forgotton how to build a decent car. End of story.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

    It will be sad to see the Commodore disappear;

5 year ago we regretfully traded my wife’s 1987 VL Commodore (Nissan Engine) in on our current 2001 VX Commodore. Back to the future?

The first car I drove (my parents) was a 1986 VK Commodore. Simple and great for driving long halls on country roads.

My grandfather drove a dark blue V8 Commodore.

My dad now drives the last Monaro. Yellow of course.

The problem with Commodore's is they last forever.....

just been to NZ[each year] i cant say that good cars are cheep.
i had a 11 year old 110KM JDM sunny auto as a rental this year.13.5 km/L.last year was a NZ new getz with 180KM.

my mate sold a 262 marina coupe in need of love for $2400 with lots of buyer interest.

I bought a skyline a few years ago listed as an up market low KM car.
in fact it was a repainted JDM taxi with full new interiour.it was obvious and the newer updated RD28 was the reason it had been purchased ex japan.

while some Jap imports are crap the ones we get in NZ are generally very good and have made buying your first car much easier for the general public and have the effect (subtle) of keeping the main dealers on their toes. eg One importer brought in 300 brand new Honda Fit which is a Jazz from a japanese honda dealer retail $17999.00 same Honda car retail $22000.00 , they sold like hot cakes and Honda went round telling people there were NOT the same car!!!!! unsafe etc !!!!! (made in thailand etc etc) Gave a two year warranty as well but being a honda never any problems anyway . I remember the old days before imports when clocking speedos and putting on new rubbers on the brake pedals to make them line up with the apparent "mileage" I knew a computer geek who could access your BMWand other Luxury cars computer and put the electronic speedo back to what ever mileage you wanted. Of course Jap imports can be clocked as well but they are offering cetification now from Japanese car inspectors now I believe to certify the milage as correct.
Also has the effect of stopping the Main dealers from charging sky high prices for parts as well which is important.

I guess this is a little like buying parts from overseas instead of local and we see some threads about this on this forum.
