Numerous ideas and suggestions so far, all of which have merit and without wishing to divert from 123rover50's intent/theme I'd like to offer the following points/suggestions.
    • I don't think that the flood cleanup/support should be combined with the 65th celebrations &/or a convoy record attempt - simply too much for one weekend.
    • Flood support needs to be 'now', not in 12months time and would be a logistical nightmare if over 1000 vehicles arrived in one area to help out. IMHO it would be more efficient and effective for smaller crews to assist over a wider area.
    • 65th celebrations could take the form of multiple events throughout 2013, at various locations around Australia - thereby enabling everyone to be involved in some way or other.
    • Having made the above point, I also think that there needs to one major event/gathering - and Melrose, with their previous organisational experience, established contacts and current planning may be the best place for this.
    • The Guiness Record attempt would probably have best chance of success if combined with the major event.
I'm sure more thoughts/ideas will come to mind as soon as I hit the submit button.

Thanks 123rover50 for initiating this thread.

I agree. Flood support / cleanup should be now. My suggestion was more for next year after the cleanup is done and to inject a bit of cash into the towns.
Most big gatherings are in the southern states and I know a lot of people up this end dont want to travel that far.
I see no reason why we could not get 1500 cars from Northern NSW and QLD with 9 months to advertise it and it shouldnt detract from the Blinman / Melrose event.
Lets have something in QLD/ North NSW for a change.
Hard to organise from the coast here but any members out there may be able to approach the authorities and sound them out.

A thought here guys, flood ravaged towns don't want visitors straight away they need time to get things sorted.

Xtreme, now is not the time, IMOI, as above

Bob, although I was thinking of going to Melrose next year, if something can be organised up this way would be terrific, it is a dam long way to go for some

Keith what a terrific idea, Harry's sister lives out Taroom way on a cattle property, and flood ravaged, we have a niece out at Baralaba west of Rocky, were flooded in for weeks

I am sure we can come up with somthing for us Qlder's for the 65th

Thats a coincidence. I have a series one here with Broadmere Pastoral Co. Taroom printed on it. I have been Googling for ages trying to find it but it appears to have gone.

The nice in Baralaba has the book that lists all the all the pastoral companies and the sister is the one that has a property in Goomeri they have extensive knowledge of the Taroom area, can ask them for you

I think it would be a pity to arrange something for the same time as the function arranged here in S.A.

As said, maybe organising working weekends where a mob of landys roll up, set up camp and then set about helping do what repairs may be necessary nearby would be good? Obviously pre organised with owner/council etc...

Actually now would be a great time to offer to clean up playgrounds or memorial areas, councils would I believe love the help, the locals can get on with their own thing and the people involved (landy owners etc) would feel some real ownership... great PR for the "mob" involved too!

Just a thought, but as I said earlier it would be a pity to arrange something else when the organising committee have taken on board suggestions and are trying a new area to make things easier for people.. This event has been the only real SA event organised annually and I believe deserves support. (I am not on any committee or even a member of the mob running/organising these events.)

I believe the original idea is good but 4 or 5 weekend visits with 2 hard days work put in by everyone involved could really make a massive difference, if it is going well then the next weekend could be at a new locations "spreading the love!" It still leaves the early evening and night for enjoying a beer or two and the company of all the others..
