65th Anniversary and flood ravaged towns.

Next year is the Landy 65th. The way I feel some mornings I may not make the 70th.
Tonight I was thinking why not have a gathering to help a couple of towns that have been hurt by the floods.
Have to get the councils on side, Chamber of Commerce etc and combine the event to beat South Africa,s largest convoy of Landies.
Advertise in the media to involve the general population with Rovers to converge on these towns one long weekend. Spending money at the shops ,pubs, caravan parks etc then perhaps converge on a property willing to host the event.
It could even be like an expo with dealers, demo,s and drives.
Should not be hard to get 1500 odd cars with families there to beat SA,s record
    Thoughts everyone?
    Keith.

Absolutely fantastic idea...You are to be commended. We will need to select which town.....perhaps one of the smaller ones up north...Theodore or similar, we would make a great impact on their economy...perhaps in time become annual event.

    Great Idea X2
May I add: focus on an area, not just a single town, that way the business gets spread around. Lockyer Valley rather than just Grantham for instance.
Though, expecting 1500+ to find accommodation, even camping in Theodore is a bit of an ask ; ) so may happen anyway
Include a re-fencing/ general cleanup component to the programme. Will require a volunteer co-ordination capability, but there are many organisations that can help there.

    65th at Melrose South Australia

    Yes,

It is a great idea but let's not start something that is likely to be already underway.
The South Australian "Blinman Jamboree" has been run successfully for years over Easter and has this year moved to Melrose - a town that should be able to take the increased patronage and visitors that were straining resources at Blinman.
There are threads on here about Melrose.
See here for this year's event:
    Melrose S.A Easter 2012
and on the Land Rover Register of South Australia website:
    Land Rover Show 2012

It is not my place to pre-empt what is likely to be able to be done next Easter 2013 for a 65th Anniversary and will leave that for one of the Melrose organisers to comment after this year's event at the new location.

It was discussed at Cooma during the 60th celebrations -combine some off road touring on the way to or from and in the Flinders Ranges with the event.

What better place to beat the South African record than in South Australia!
