Cheap Overseas Phone Calls

I have a VoIP phone attached to my home router. I use a cordless handset so it can be used anywhere. I'm with Pennytel. Calls to landlines within Oz cost nothing, calls to mobiles ar dirt cheap, and international calls are also very cheap. I can check the bills if needed.

However, Read's Skype suggestion could be worth looking at for calling back to Oz. It might also be cheaper.

$10 buys between 270 minutes and 600 mins depending where you call and what time of day... safer and better than handing over a credit card number...

I used a free skype many years ago, but the delay was like ship to shore. roger,

That's fine for Skype-to-Skype calls but to call land-lines or mobiles, you need to pay.

Will this be for a mobile or a land line and how does it work?

I know it will depend on what deal you have, but does anyone know the cost to phone England from a land line?

When I call an English landline, I use Skype (as Ali has already mentioned). The cost is very cheap, from memory the last time I called it cost me something like $2 for half an hour. Calls to mobiles are a little more expensive but the prices are still competetive.

Do they in uk have a computer, you could do an online call , you each need a mic and a camera then use the internet, apple have face time, not sure what the windows one is called

I just want to ring a few LR parts shops like Paddocks with some enquiries, so skype and voip are not suitable. I don't want to waste time setting up any new stuff as this will only be spasmodic, not like I will be ringing friends on a regular basis.

Check the cost per minute to the country of call. I use a "Joy" card to call a supplier in Hong Kong and get 2,000 minutes for $10. This has to be land-line to mobile. I had friends working in Saudi Arabia and the "Joy" card cost to Sandi-land was $0.75 per minute. That is why I got Skype. Card expires in three months from first use.
