    Caught in W.A..

I got this as an email today, photographer unknown.

You might think twice next time about wandering around in the scrub.

This pig was caught at Roy Hill Station, via Newman, Pilbara, Australia!

They only caught it because their dogs were going missing - it was eating them!

This photo's been doing the rounds for a few years now. I seem to remember a few different claims for where it was taken.

    Anyway, quite a decent-sized pig.

Like most crap that is emailed around... it is just that...

    Source: PerthNow

THIS picture of a giant feral pig allegedly killed at Roy Hill Station near Newman in the WA Pilbara, has been floating around the internet.

But station-owner Ray Kennedy says the picture isn’t of him and the photo couldn’t have been snapped on his property because pigs don’t live in the region.

Do you know the person in this photo? Or do you know where the pig was trapped or shot?

Mr Kennedy believes the photo wasn’t even taken in the Pilbara because pigs are highly susceptible to heat and would struggle to survive in such an arid landscape.

The caption placed next to the picture, which is doing the rounds on email, states this boar was caught after dogs went missing from the Newman farm.

It reads: "You might think twice next time about wandering around in the scrub. This pig (check the attached pic) was caught in Australia, Roy Hill Station, via Newman. (Pilbara) They only caught it because their dogs were going missing - it was eating their dogs!"

Hoax-Slayer.com says an article in the January 2007 edition of Sporting Shooter states the 220kg boar was shot on a cattle station in the Pilbara.

"The article notes that the giant was first spotted during a helicopter muster on the station. During a subsequent windmill run, the station owner came across the pig and shot it," Hoax-Slayer says.

Feral pigs, also called razorbacks, wild swine or boars carry disease and are an introduced species to Australia.

There is estimated to be more than 23 million feral pigs roaming the nation, predominantly found in NSW, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

They ransack the local environment, preying on native species and destroying precious habitat.

Over the past two years the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) have culled hundreds of feral pigs from the state's South-West.

This is not the first time a giant hog kill has turned up in the news.

In January 2007 an 11-year-old boy was said to use a pistol to kill a giant pig in Georgia, US, that weighed 476kg.

But the story turned out to be nothing more than hogwash when it was revealed the pig was infact an overfed farm pet called Fred.

Do you know where or when this new giant hog picture was taken?

Can you shed any light on who caught this razorback or took this amazing photo?

No pigs around Newman, otherwise I would have been out chasing them. Just Camels & Roos.
That pic has been around for many years. It was published in a shooting mag and from memory was NT.
Also it is a perspective pic, with the pig hanging near the back of the ute and the shooter leaning against the door. An old trick to make a catch look much bigger than it actually is.
