I've been here a year! Wife's family came out 2005 and we followed suit last March. Have done more with the four wheel driving and camping in the last 12 months than I did in a lifetime "back home". Originally from Kent but most recently Suffolk. Still not 100% sure about Oz but I guess that's to be expected for a few years. Luckily have old friends from Kent who live close by and have been here 6 years. They've helped me through so far. Great to see how many others of us there are and how well it's worked out for you all

    Hmmmmm

Okay...are we "Poms" or "POMEs"or "POHMs"????

That the 3 spellings I'm aware of and their origins....any more out there?

for the record I be a West Country lad from Plymouth in Deb'n. Hit these shores in 1983.

Plymouth Argyle sucked so followed a littlem of Everton, but mostly have been into Union.

Suppose my Nic gives me away a tad

Not a pom but a Scott, have this thing about being classed as a pom as do most Welsh & Irish. Arrived here in early 1970 & have never looked back. Applied for Australian citizenship the day I was eligible & have never regetted it . Worked in mineral exploration industry for over 20 years & probably travelled more of Aus by 4WD fixed wing & choppers than most Australians. Only quit because my title was Adelaide warehouse manager & I was spending 10 out of 12 months bush or overseas mobilising or demobing jobs. Learned to drive @ 10 on the farm in a S1 & bought a S111 & did a trip in 1978 from Adelaide to Darwin(when the bitumin stopped @ the 60 km sign at Pt Augusta) & return via the east coast with only a broken windscreen ($15 to replace) & one puncture.
Father-in-Law had the first Range Rover in S A whitch I promtly blew the clutch on pulling stumps on my BILs block Not impressed but fixed under warranty believe it or not. Currently have a RR Clasic 89 with very little working (heater, A/C & most dash lights) but goes O K & otherwise is in good condition & for what I paid c'ant complain. Love this country.

I'm originally from Lancashire, learnt to drive in a S3 Lightweight

Moved to Sydney in 2000, the Olympics was a great time.
Being from oop north, was a bit of a league fan so plenty of great games to see and I love the state of origin!
Moved to Melbourne a few years ago and would be a permanent nomad around the high country if I could.
Slowly getting to grips with Aussie rules (you get a point for missing...???).

Will always be a Lancashire lad, but can't imagine being anywhere else.

    Ok my turn

Born in Winchester , in 1971 and lived in Hampshire for all my Uk life.

Don't really support football but when asked I say Southampton as closest team to where I used to live. Always a problem as I am in sales and as a Pom people expect you to follow and know everything about the premiership. Did not follow it when I lived there. Really I am a rugby union person

Moved to Brisbane in Nov 2005.

Spent 8 months driving around Aus in the 90 which we bought over and a camper trailer. Pretty much done everywhere on main land Australia

Wife is an Aussie ( country Qld girl )

Love it and loving life, now have two young boys born here and true Aussie kids.

So glad I moved here and my brother is in the process of moving out here which will then really give me no reason to go back to Blighty.

OK me next. Came here originally in 1996 to Adelaide. Had never been to Australia before not even a holiday. Worked in Adelaide for a year then moved to Melbourne and then on to Darwin. Loved it all. Whilst in Darwin took Citizenship but then had to leave due to family problems. Finally got back here in October 2009 and now live in Scarborough (I know we really wanted to live somewhere Australian sounding like Wagga Wagga, but ended up here).
One thing I will say is for ex-pats to join in Australain life. Join a club and experience what Australia has to offer. Don't just join in with other ex-pats and talk about back in old Blighty. I have joined 4wd clubs from the very start of being over here and have seen an awful lot of the country and been to places I would never have gone to were it not for local knowledge.
