    AULRO Server hardware

    Hi,

I have always wondered what hardware AULRO sits on? Compared to forums such as

Overclockers Australia Forums - Powered by vBulletin
    http://lrsoc.com

it is extremely slow to process pages and searches compared to other forums i've used.

series one club wouldnt have anywhere near the traffic this place has and is running smf which would simply die on its butt trying to drive this sort of setup so your not comparing apples with apples. most i have seen online there is about 10 at once.

as for overclockers, never been there and no idea what hardware they have it running on.. so cant comment

more a symptom of the size of the link your isp has into pipenetworks IX in brisbane i would think... but it could be a myriad of things

aulro runs on two systems these days

    from memory

a sun t1000 32 cpu core unit with 16gig of ram and 70gig of sasi disk drive (mirrored of course) doing web and database and barely raising a sweat cpu wise and at about 30% i/o wise

and an ibm quad core intel based 1ru server handling mail and other services...

am sure some will beg to differ...

overclockers is running the same software but doesnt appear to be running any addons which helps speed.
and page load times are very similar to aulro load times on my link here at work...

You pose an interesting question so lets look at the history of it.

AULRO started small. Few members, lower bandwidth demands and so on. This was the first server:

Word got around and the forum began to grow. which required a new generation of technology to function:

    which itself became quickly outdated.

    Next was:

There's a photo around somewhere of our own p38aRover manning the console of one of the AULRO servers...

AULRO now sees exponential growth and looks something like this, I'm sure....

and as we speak Inc is working on the next generation....

It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

I get the same speeds from home as i do via work which is on a 30mbit pipe. AULRO is still a dog of a website to load compared to everything else. It aways has been.

I would say the add ons as you say might slow it up.

Regarding SMF. That's a little harsh.... Considering there own website support forums currently have around 2000 guests browsing and the performance is excellent.

Are you able to get the little thing at the bottom of the page which will tell us how long the page was created in? Eg. Page created in 0.166 seconds with 6 queries. (From a SMF Site)

    From Home:
    Tracing route to aulro.com [202.182.124.179]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms home.gateway [192.168.1.254]
    2 15 ms 16 ms 14 ms nexthop.qld.iinet.net.au [203.215.9.250]
    3 15 ms 14 ms 15 ms te7-1.bne-pipe-bdr2.iinet.net.au [203.215.8.22]

    4 15 ms 16 ms 14 ms as24130.brisbane.pipenetworks.com [218.100.0.2]

    5 15 ms 15 ms 15 ms voicevalley.pipenetworks.com [203.161.128.126]
    6 16 ms 15 ms 16 ms mail.aulro.com [202.182.124.179]

    Trace complete.
